    Bracelet pins/ springbar

    Good morning all!

A friend has a sub 5513, which he received for his 21st birthday, he thinks (a long distant memory now!), with the original bracelet.

I saw him last night, and he wasn’t wearing the sub, as he explained to me that the “springbar”, or whatever it is, had failed on his bracelet, as shown on this pic of the bracelet of my Datejust, where I have circled in red, as his actual watch is at his house.

It is the pin to the left, that retains the “folding” part of the bracelet. Apologies if my terminology is amateur!
I understand from him that it has failed, or stuck in at one end of the bar, and he thinks it may be that the internal spring mechanism has either failed, or just become crudded up over time.
It is not the springbar that is used to adjust the wrist size and fit, further along, although perhaps these are the same bars/ pins, in reality.

Please can someone guide me as to whether it is, in fact, just a regular springbar, in which case, could anyone please advise the right size to get from Cousins/ HS Walsh etc?

I appreciate that these may or may not be a standard size, and it will probably be bracelet-model specific, but any help or thoughts/ guidance would be very much appreciated as he is anxious about wearing it out in case it fails and he loses his watch, or damages it from a drop!

    Many thanks!

And, in the meantime, suggest to your friend that he removes the bracelet completely and wears the watch on a NATO for the time being

Thanks NigeG - I will do that.

Looking forward to showing him the entrance to, and then nudging him down in to that particular rabbit-hole.

If it works, I’ll post pics back here!

    Bracelet pins/ springbar

Just to update this, friend spoke with Seth today, and, having seen WhatsApp pictures of the 5513, and bracelet, he is planning on doing a full movement service, strip, clean, lubricate, and reassemble, test, and waterproof test, but with the caveat that he can’t guarantee waterproof in the older acrylic glass models.

Price doesn’t include any major parts that need to be replaced, and nothing to be replaced without consent, and nothing will be done to the dial/ hands, or bezel.
That service is £250, as a vintage.

With regards to the bracelet, a full restoration (as it has obviously been very well used and worn over the years) would be approx £300, plus VAT, but full quote will be given once Seth has actually seen and reviewed it.

Timescale given of approx 6-8 weeks.

Friend is delighted with the steer, and has carefully packaged it up, ready to be sent off tomorrow.

With luck, it will be within the timescales, or thereabouts, but I have advised him that it could possibly take longer to manage his expectations.

Very grateful for the steer, and, with his permission, I will post up pics here once returned.

    Thanks again!
