Three of a kind(ish)

The black one on the left is a WW2 A11. The black is tarnished silver. I have gone over it with a silver cloth occasionally. Silver does seem an odd material for a military watch, but they do exist. A11s were made by Bulova, Elgin and Waltham for the USAAF. There are some Walthams with RAF markings.

That's interesting, especially being silver!
Heresy, I know, but I was looking at Bulovas site earlier and I see they have the 'Hack' watch which I guess is their modern take on the style.
I love the look of the vintage watches but I don't want the aggro of an old piece. The trouble with many of these modern interpretations is they are not really a do it all watch - this one, for example is described as 'splash resistant' and others are not much better. Probably why like my CWC G10 sapphire as it has the look but with a modern twist!
That seems sensible. I picked up the Bulovas fifteen years or so ago when they were plentiful and cheap, so not so much to spend and not too risky in the case of duds. I also have an RAF Waltham and USN Hamilton in similar styles. I doubt if I’’d buy any these days with present day prices, risks of vintage and duds, repair costs.
The silver A11 has quite thin lugs which is a known weakness.

That is a nice looking trio.
Great selection Billy.

If I recall correctly I've handled the silver A11 (in the Sussex Arms - just a 10 minute walk from the Waterman's Arms in Richmond) and it is really wonderful. It would certainly be my pick of the three.
A very nice treo.
