Apple Watch 'cellular' - UK SIM options?

I'm looking at an Apple Watch Ultra 2, or perhaps 3 when it (hopefully) comes out in September this year.
I'm looking at my 'cellular' options for using it, mainly for emergencies, when I leave my phone at home when out cycling or running, and would appreciate your advice or experiences in what options are available to me, in the UK.

I'm currently with SKY Mobile, and I don't think they support Apple at present. I think the only ones that do are EE, O2, and 3, but stand to be corrected.
So, would I need a separate SIM for my Apple Watch, to run independently from my iPhone, or does it still somehow need to be linked to your phone?
Of course ideally I'd like the same number but I'd have to cancel SKY and look at one of the others.
Would I need to have the same provider to make this work, i.e. EE etc. or can I have a different SIM in my phone to the one in my watch (I realise that the Apple are an e-SIM but you get my point).
It may be straight forward but doesn't seem to be at present!

I'm with O2 and an sim IIRC is costing me an extra 5 PPM, it's the same number.

Not sure how costly two numbers would be.

Maybe look at porting your Sky mobile number to another provider that can provide an eSIM.

Your carrier provide an eSIM and link it to your main account. You technically have two numbers, but ringing your phone just forwards to the watch eSIM

I don’t think you can run the watch independently with a separate eSIM

I used Vodafone so add them to your list

Thanks, I need to call EE and O2, and discuss what they offer.
I think that I am best to look at porting my SKY number over to a carrier that does support Apple SIMs.
Depends though on what they charge, if it's say £5pm, that's OK but if the main SIM cost is say double what I'm paying SKY then I'll probably not bother, as it's not worth more than an extra fiver on top of what I'm currently paying for my SUIM (£10.50pm for unlimited calls/texts/10gb Data - with rollover and transfer data to wife's SIM)

    Thanks, will do.
Can't do it at present though as SKY don't support Apple e-SIMS.

It will depend if you're soon out of contract or not. Even though your current deal is unremarkable and thus you'll easily find a better deal with a provider that offers the Apple Watch service, the cost of terminating your SKY deal may render the whole thing too expensive to justify it.

True, I need to check that, I think I may be on a rolling month by month contract.

I can only add that I’m with EE (and was before I got my Ultra 2) and it only costs me £5 extra a month for the apple e-sim. The apple sim does show as a separate number on my EE app (I have a family link where I can share data between family phones) although that number is redundant as it just links through my mobile number as others have said. Funnily enough I was out walking the dog today and had left my phone inside by accident and took an important call on the phone from my Doctor on the Apple Watch so it can actually be very handy!

This is what I want to achieve. I've tried to speak to EE and O2 but gave up after being on hold in a queue for an eternity.
Incidentally, is 'We are helping other customers' somehow supposed to make me feel better?

Probably the best deal I’ve ever seen which includes the Apple watch data plan…

    https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/get...tv-24m-4527433

£13pm unlimited data, EU roaming and apple watch plan.

Appreciate the heads up, but I'm confused. That plan is £360 and a 'device' is mentioned?
I only want a SIM only package, I have a phone and would buy the watch outright.
    Am I missing something?
