I bought a Sub Date 16610 through the forum a couple of years ago. I think I was the third person on here to buy it.
I went through so many worries when it needed a service of where to send it. In the end I took it to Rolex Kings Hill service centre. My biggest fear was them telling me it wasn’t the real deal or it was full of non oem parts and refusing to work on it. In the end it was all fine but I did have a few sleepless nights.
Ironically I wore it pretty much every day from when I bought it until it stopped working, since getting it back in December it’s unworn and I’m now considering selling it.

The main trait you need in a seller is the confidence that they would react appropriately if there was a problem.
Funnily enough. A good friend of mine whose not in to watches, but wanted to get a significant watch for the birth of his 2nd child, only really wanted a Rolex, put his name down for a Sub no date after a bit of window shopping with me, this was in Bluewater back in September 23, friend was working in the TV industry and having the money straight away no issue.
Fast forward to last year & received some terrible news regarding his health, now a complete lifestyle change, moved away from the big city, no work, cheaper mortgage etc.
Just messaged me to say he’s received the call the Subs available!
Completely forgot about it, and we both thought was only 6m ago.

I waited a matter of weeks for my Sub ND after asking about one. Picked up January 2023.
Had an established buying history with the AD and was surprised how quickly it came.
I was assured I could have an Explorer 40 inside just a couple of months. I´d walked into a watch place in a mall in Philly, very casually dressed with no history or references.
Oh and the shop fella did a wee bow when he gave me his business card, neither of us Japanese but he did that present his bizzo card with both hands thing, bless him for trying.

What a strange comment. Aside from the fact that it would not be possible to know whether the watch was new or not, surely. You cannot really be so readily judgmental to base your entire opinion of an individual’s character on the watch that s/he wears?
As it happens, I bought a new Rolex watch last week…demeaning myself in the process, evidently. Good grief.
What a waste of effort, if only he’’d known he was dealing with the world’s biggest lowballer.Originally Posted by Passenger;[emoji6[emoji640
I did smile when I first read his, as you say, rather strange comment.
Anyone paying attention over the years would be well aware that there are plenty of prominent members on here who tend to end up with the models they request new from an AD without buying stuff they don’t want, nor by treating it other than as a retail purchase.
We do love a 'Rolex - comment and get your hopes up' thread...........................
It's like "Field of Dreams" : "If you talk about it - it will happen"![]()
Another fruitless journey into the AD. Still a big waitlist apparently.
Coffee was good, the chat was pleasant. So will just have to continue waiting

I’ve never accepted the coffee or bubbles offers, just feels weird in a watch shop for me. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong lol.

I've had a few sports Rolex's over the years, and no, I did not demean myself purchasing.
But in them olden days you could walk into an AD with the full range in the window display and just buy one. My last was a 16570 GMT from Upchurch Colchester, 2023, long gone, for £2,250. At the time there was every sub' variant in the window with Explorers & a Yachtmaster.
Happy days then.

Because I really wanted the BLNR for such a long time and couldn't get it, I did the typical man thing of thinking I should get on the list for something that was maybe achievable and hence the 124060..
Bit like when the Black Bay Heritage with in house movement first came out, I thought I would sell my 114060, pocket the cash and be satisfied with the Black Bay. Expensive lessons learned by me: just pick the watch you actually really, really want and do whatever is necessary to get it. No such thing as a consolation watch.
Not really. Future resale doesn't really bother me as this won't be going anywhere - it was a special occasion watch (and if anything with the downturn in second hand prices I'd be losing more if I flogged the grey purchased BLNR than had I bought the 124060 at retail and sold it on).
No lesson for the dealer intended either: they won't know I now have a BLNR or where it came from. if they do ever call me for the 124060 I'm likely still on a list for there's no dramas I'll just politely say no thanks, they'll hang up the phone and just sell it to the next guy.
