Is 29.5% (or thereabouts) "additional fees" standard for such auctions?
The trend is for buyers' fees to be up at those levels now.....so that's a higher percentage even on top of the hammer prices which have generally soared over recent decades.
Still, if you receive a competent and honest service from the auction house such as to allow bidders to be sure of what they are bidding upon, perhaps it could be justified.
< cough >
That's one of the cheap ones... a lot are 37%!!
Plus on top of that there are postage fees, either severely inflated by the auction house or recommending a third party (mailboxes.com are about 35 quid now!).
Auctions are not for the faint of heart.
Factor in the fees they also take from the seller and it seems that they seem to be banking about 50% of the hammer price. They have gotten insanely greedy in recent years. I'm in the wrong line of work.
