Home cinema / better tv sound on a budget?

I would like to improve the sound on my tv by adding a some extra speakers. Does anyone know the simplest/cheapest way to do this?

Can I use a cheap s/h audio amp for example, connected to the dvd player and going through a couple of small speakers?

Or is it best to go for a "home cinema" package?

Space is limited, as is budget.......

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ed

It's going to totally be budget driven IMO so what kind of money can you spare for this upgrade?

Amazing for £349, not the cheapest, but they sound pretty good.

Without doubt an Acoustic Energy Aego 2.1 system for £129. What Hifi 'Best Buy' it sounds fantastic! oodles of bass and a good mid/treble. Speakers made of di-cast metal and very tiny. Has a front connection for ipod/aux too. White or black

I have a SONY DAV-IS10. Intergrated DVD/CD & radio. It has a fairly chunky amp but the front, centre and rear surrounds are golf ball sized. They sound great in a living room approx 4m x 5m.

I think they are now going for just over £300 on the web.
    I paid about £475 a year ago.

    Positive reviews too!

Those Acoustic Energy speakers look good, but what do you plug them into?

    Apologies for the basic q's.

The sub is powered with it's own built in amplifier. So in the case of connecting a TV for example, one would just take the audio output from the TV into the 2 x phono sockets on the sub. If there are no phono outputs you could use a scart to two phono plugs to take the audio out.

    Rod

PS All the cables come with the system inc speaker cables (not scart).

OK; that's your opinion - and I don't need to 'handle it', I asked because it wasn't clear what you meant.

I think Bose make some good stuff -but wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same things?

Since everyone started discussing shaving soap, badger brushes, straight razors, Tesco blades and something for the weekend Sir.

I've not heard them. Check out KEF's new KHT1005 system very compact and good on music too. Comes with all the brackets and a classy digital sub. (uses B&O's ICE amp). best at £399. :)

The AE system is superior. These Orbs are style items.

Don't know how they sound but they did the sound for Eric Clapton and the Grammy Awards in 2004. I can't interpret the specs in any way but I'll check the KEFs. :)

Re: Home cinema / better tv sound on a budget?

Well after all the knowlegeable advice I went bought some of these

    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/sp...236&cl=roeu,en

I realise that they are not a patch on "proper" kit, but to be honest they are ideal for what I wanted, and the little sub can go behind the tv, out of reach of 4 year old fingers!

Total cost £36 including all the bits to connect it to the tv! 8)
