    Newly arrived, IWC MkXV

Box, papers, original strap and IWC deployment and all receipts from new in 2006. Very happy. Always felt the danger of these being “the one watch” territory and it really could be.

That looks wonderful. I’ve had a couple of XVs and wish I’d kept one. Can I ask where you found it?

C24. In fact a friend found it and alerted me.
UK seller (and indeed UK watch from new). Lovely bloke, had some thoughts about cooking salmon, took a reasonable offer, threw in a Hirsch strap as well as the original. Very un-C24. Was like buying a watch on SC.

Having read your aborted PRS post, I think that is one of the nicest second best choices Ive seen in a long time. As others have said , pure clase.

Lovely, can’t beat an IWC Pilot especially a Mark XV or X.

    Congrats to you!

Beautiful………..I sometimes regret getting my XV back in 2018 as it has become my one watch. There was fun in the search, flipping every year or so going through Sinn, Damasko, Breitling, Rolex, Tudor etc. but since getting the IWC I no longer feel the need to search.

    Newly arrived, IWC MkXV

Well, thanks for ruining my day ;-)

Seriously great find Mark XV, congratulations. Massive regrets letting mine go a few years back. For me, the best Mark out there.

I'll be in touch when you decide to let it go :-)

Edit: I appear to have just bought one

Same here but in my case Mark XVI. Ever since I bought it in 2010, I lost interest in other watches. I sold my other watches and literally this is only my daily watch left. No need to look for new watch.

I’ve had a great experience dealing with private sellers on Chrono24. Even had a face to face watches and coffee chat with the seller of my Panerai 210. Only good experiences so far

Nice one! By chance a 2007 IWC arrived has just arrived here from C24 too.

Joins my 2006 Doppel - I think IWC watches of this era haven't been surpassed, the movements perhaps but not the design or execution.

Aye, that's my slight fear too. It just does everything brilliantly.

When looking for an IWC xv for sale some have the square hands like yours and others pointed hands.
    What’s that about
    Thanks

There were two versions, the XV model was the transitional model available with both handsets and different dials.

Yep, the other version I believe was referred to as the Spitfire with applied numerals and markers and a 2 sector dial.

It was. I didn't like it and yet absolutely adored the XVI. The XV is perfect as it is, especially on the frankly incredible bracelet.

As I'm a pauper these days, I'm happy to have the nearest thing to it - the Speedbird 3. That'll do for now.

The original dial/hand combo in the classic Mark XV it's still I think the best looking and best best-proportioned of IWC Fliegeruhr series.

To my mind IWC lost its way for a bit around the original 'Spitfire' era, as well as messing up the Mark XV they spoiled the Fliegerchronograph 3706, UTC 3251 and Doppelchronograph 3713 with these 'improvements'.

I absolutely loved the Mark XV but at 38mm it was frustratingly too small for my wrist, same with the 39mm Fliegerchronograph and UTC (I owned all three, the Fliegerchronograph twice). The 42mm Doppel is a better size for larger wrists.

The closest of the modern watches the Mark XV dial is the 3270-07 which is a version of the Mark XVIII I think, but while I really like it (and at 40mm I could get away with it), it's not quite up with the Mark XV in all departments.

I agree it's the best proportioned, but prefer the san-serif 1s on the Mark XVI onwards dials, which look a bit cleaner and more modern as a result of the font. Frustrating, as is so often the case the ultimate combination is one that doesn't exist.

Entirely your fault Mr Gibberish, Mark XV arrived yesterday. I’ll try and keep hold of this one.

Both these and the Mark XV of the OP very beautiful indeed.

Might be cliche, but to me they really just don't do them like they used to anymore.

Can barely find a watch I like available new today, apart from some unavailable Rolex.

Very interested to know if the 2006 Doppel and the 2007 AT have ever been serviced in their lifetime? I just bought a mint 2014 Chrono that has been only lightly used and am weighing if/when to service.

I totally agree! IWC movements have moved on (though there have been reliability niggles with some of the in-house movements - these much-improved ETA-based movements tend to be rock solid reliable). But IWC design lost its way to some extent in the 2010s, and has only latterly come on track. There are stand-out examples where that isn't the case (such as heritage pieces like the Tribute to the Mk XI). But in general, it's true I think.

I had the Doppel serviced when I got it, it needed a crystal and I had it serviced at the same time, I also picked up a couple of links which can only be procured at service time for these neo-vintage models. I haven't serviced the AT yet but I will likely send it in at some point. It's running really well though currently and keeps very good time.

    Thank you.

To be honest, I have come to the conclusion that if it's running well (few secs/day), with good amplitude and good PR, and it is worn in rotation with other watches I think I'd let it be.
