Off-road driving in the South East..?

My daughter's passed her test recently and is getting a huge kick out of driving, so I thought it might be fun to give her (and myself) an experience of off-roading.

I'd prefer to avoid the generic 'Virgin Experience Day' type vouchers, and I'm looking for a recommendation for somewhere ideally in Sussex or a little further afield.

Seems Land Rover has a few sites, but nothing in the SE. I've found John Morgan near to me which seems to get good reviews, but from what I can see they cater for existing 4x4 owners which I am not.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA

Not done it myself but the Goodwood experience is normally a good one if never the cheapest.

Thanks, I did take a look at that but sounds like you don't get an Instructor - you're just given a briefing then let loose on the course on your own from what I could see. Not something I'd be bothered about but I suspect she'd need some pro guidance.

I'd be hoping the instructor came along for the 60-mins ride ("An instructor to provide advice on vehicle control, obstacle handling and stories from the Estate"). Thankfully they have a phone number...

Possible I've misread - will give them a bell as you say.

This might be a long-shot, so apologies if it is.

Many years ago and I mean many, I went on a one-day LR course run by a chap called Vince Cobley. From memory in old quarries in Bedfordshire, maybe brick clay pits if it was Beds. Three of us and it wasn't expensive. We used his diesel LR for most of the time and later on had a go in my petrol LR which I gave up many years ago.

It was really enjoyable and we learned a lot about control, safety and recovery. The first time rolling backwards down a muddy, steep hill with feet off all the pedals under diesel engine braking was a blast.

I think I came across his details in LR Monthly or one of the others rags. If VC no longer does it, I suspect they'll be adverts for similar in one of the magazines.

The streets of Chelsea must be a good location given the number of 4x4s clogging up the streets.

Mercedes Brooklands has an off road track it's not in the countryside as such, but looks like a fun experience and not massive money.

Thanks for this. I’ve just googled him and looks like he’s still operating as Protrax Overland Adventures, so will take a look.

It could make a really good day out, Brooklands museum is behind the Mercedes centre and it has one of the remaining Concorde's plus lots of other cool stuff to see, all within what's left of the old Brooklands racing circuit.

    Hi
I'm a LandRover experience off road driving instructor, I work out of Luton Hoo which is the main centre for the SE.
We do 1/2 day (3 hour) and full day experiences, you can pick what car you go out in, most people opt for the Defender.

We do gift vouchers. Priced at £480 for a Half Day and £695 for a Full Day. It really is lots of fun and very informative, but is a lot of money.

Interesting. Too far as you say on this occasion, but I must look into this out of curiosity - I'm involved in fell running where environmental impact is a hot topic, so would be interested to see how this stacks up as it looks like they use public trails rather than private land..

Imagine that's a fun job! What's your customer base mainly? New buyers of Defenders / Corporate / individuals?
