    Time for a service?

Just noticed over the last few days my Submariner rotor has been making a bit of an audible buzzing/whizzing noise when rotating.

Taking it off and spinning the rotor I can almost feel a vibration with the noise.

To the more informed on here I assume this might be a good time for a service? Timekeeping is fine, it just sounds a bit rough!

I think it's obvious, the rotor's become noisy so there's definitely a problem. Unlike grazed knees they don't heal up, watches don't fix themselves.

    Just some oil

Those are signs that it needs some service like oiling or just a service check.

Disagree, it isn`t like oiling a squeaky door hinge!

It's likely to need a proper service, which involves fully stripping the movement and replacing any worn parts. The fact that the rotor has developed a fault is almost certainly the tip of the iceberg. Only exception is if the watch has been stored on a watch winder, that can lead to premature wear of the auto-winding components. I once had a 7 year old Omega in for service, I was amazed at the wear in the rotor bearing which was far worse than i`d expect at that age. Turns out the watch was stored on a winder...........I rest my case.

Worn rotor axle Id think. A known weak point with these movements.
