Thread: iPad/iPhone Battery Q

    iPad/iPhone Battery Q

Have a new iPad and wondered about best way to use (though at least iPhone and likely other devices similar): -

If used attached to charger is it still running off the battery whilst battery continues to be topped up (and cycle count/aging increases) or is battery by-passed to some extent?

Not sure on the latter, but charging to around 80% and charging using a lower amp charger will definitely improve battery longevity.
My current SE 3 (and the previous 2) are way better than previous iPhones with the same battery capacity, by doing the above.

Not sure if it’s correct but I’ve found that just charging it up to say 80% and using it and not letting it drop too
    low either
My 13 is still showing 90% and my aw ultra series 1 still 99%
I don’t let them sit on charge when charged

Does it have the new battery saver option? You can set it to only charge to 80% .

My 13 is charged overnight, every night. There's a setting called "optimised battery charging" which learns from the phone usage routine and only charges to 80% overnight and tops up to 100% just before the phone is likely to be used.

So, no input from me, and the phone is always 100% when I start the day.

The outcome of that - on a 3 year old iPhone 13... the battery health is 89%, so I think it's pretty safe to let the phone do the thinking.

The new iPhone 16 allows you to set a battery percentage charge limit. The theory on Li ion batteries is that using them between 30-80% is optimum for battery health. I've got a max which has a large battery anyway so I've just set it to charge to 80% maximum.

I have a 2020 iPad that I use daily and had no charge strategy...normally I'd just charge it to 100% then use it and recharge when at about 20%. 4-years later and it's still running fine with no battery issues. I even took it to an apple store to enquire if it was anywhere near a battery service. They said it was still above their threshold so not to bother.

Thanks for this, just checked on my Galaxy S22 Ultra and it has this function. Even though the battery life is still great I wish I'd known this when I bought it🙄

As others have, I’ve set max charge to 80%.
