TV streaming services going rapidly downhill?

    We currently have:
    Netflix
    Amazon Prime
    Paramount +
    Disney
    Now
    Apple TV

Of late I have noticed that there seem to be far fewer quality new original series appearing, and a huge amount of straight to DVD movie dross. Prime is now showing adverts and charging for even very old movies - in fact the large majority of films now seem to require you to pay extra for them.

Netflix seems to be going rapidly downhill in every respect.

    Disney is ok.
Apple I only really have for "For All Mankind".
Now I ony have for "The Curse of Oak Island".

This story yesterday seemed to chime with my suspicions:

Anyone else feeling similarly, or differently?
So clever my foot fell off.

I largely agree, Prime is poor, horrible interface and too many things that require further payment.

Apple doesn't have enough to keep a subscription all year and I'll be dropping ours when Slow Horses finishes this run.

Netflix is ok but having had it for a few years the rate of new stuff being added seems to have slowed.

Now/sky seems to be feeling the squeeze I wonder how they will cope when hbo launch here next year as that forms a lot of their premium content.

I'll be joining Disney for a few months when I drop Apple.

We have Netflix and Disney and there's about enough for me and the kids to justify keeping them.

I only use Prime if there's a footy game I want to watch, otherwise it's pants. I fancy watching a couple of series on Apple but not enough to start subscribing.

TBH I could live with only the Beeb's output.

Yep, I have the same list and agree with what you say.
Im particularly annoyed about Prime, a shadow of its former self.

We have Netflix, Prime and Disney

We bounce into the others depending on the series, so Now for Dragons and Apple TV for slow horses.

We wait until all the episodes drop then sign up for a couple of months

There are more than four channels?

I read that piece yesterday and agree, we are definitely no longer in the era of high cost box-set series.

Absolutely! It used to be my "go to" platform. Now, only if I can't find it anywhere else and am resigned to paying for it. I'm a huge Amazon fan/buyer, but Prime now sucks.

I was once taught “how did the welders at the Swan Vickers yard know the company was going bust …..two years before the management? They stopped welding !”

Its the same observation here , if the drone and camera guys are quiet, thats no new original material. The studios will still be finessing previous work so the immediate effects will be buffered as post production will be rattling along normally.

It's mostly a load of old cak anyway. I scan through the services now and again and nothing at all takes my fancy.

Last decent streaming series I watched was Pistol on Disney + and that was years ago.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I absolutely loathe the relentless march towards everything in life being subscription based, and do my utmost to avoid it as much as practically possible. Could see it coming a mile away that the prices would go up once the hook was in, and with the quality diminishing at the same time.

Hence, for my viewing/listening pleasure, I have built up a large library of DVDs and CDs which should see me nicely through retirement (picking many of them up at 4 for £1 in the charity shops).

No interest whatsoever in enriching the likes of Amazon, Netflix, Sky, HBO, Disney, Apple, Spotify etc etc.

I pay for Prime and Apple Music. I get the cost of Prime back and then some on what I save on deliveries. I loathe paying Apple but like music whilst running and it’s seamless with my watch/phone

You will no doubt have noticed that prime delivery tends to add at least a quid on for the pleasure.

On a random sample of 1 item, next day delivery was £4 cheaper with Prime.

Yup - common items sold by many vendors are often significantly more expensive on prime.

The distressed buyer will pay more for a fast turnaround.

A lot of the issues stem from the fallout from the Screenwriters strike, things are slowly getting back to normal.

I don't bother with all that juddering and poor quality! Instead I rent disks from Cinema Paradiso.

I put my tv in the attic three weeks ago. Just to gather dust with other old items. Until now, no regrets.

One of the reasons for the ‘move’ was exactly what the OP writes!

It seems that any rules about original content have gone out of the window. The latest trick is saying "new" meaning it's new to that channel

  22. #22
I pay nearly £100 a month to Virgin for internet, TV, Sky Sports, Eurosport and Discovery/TNT Sports. I could add other sports and movies, but that's enough.

I also have (in order of popularity in our household) Youtube Premium Family, Netflix, Spotify Family, Amazon Prime, Disney+.

Even though we have all that, I'd say 30% of what I watch comes via bit torrent.

The fragmentation of broadcast media has ruined the experience for the viewer and hit them very hard in the pocket.
