    Rolex - sigh - again. 16600

Help appreciated, I'm not up to speed with current values but my best mate has asked a favour so here goes - Original owner, no service history, boxes, papers etc.
    Thanks n2
Idea of how much it's worth.

Certainly a difficult one to answer looking at any Rolex or other high end brand right now.
Pre covid it would have been snapped up at 9.5k,knock possibly 2k of that now,and still hang around even so.
I have 2 16600s and although considered selling I just dont like the prices they are going for tbh.

Ill probably try a trade or straight swap for several lower value watches, preferably a Speedy in the mix.

Your friends watch does look very nice with the patina on the plots.

£7400ish looking at a well known watch marketplace. Wide range though, less in Japan.

Most undervalued Rolex model these days IMO. They used to sell at a premium to other 5 digit sports refs but currently at a discount. I'd keep unless the sale is necessary.

I agree. And whenever I see a 5 digit sub when out its hardly if ever a Seadweller.

It’s a very, very old service card so probably serviced it and forgot.

Difficult to tell from those pics. Has it been polished to within an inch of its life and the bevels lost blah blah. Many Rolex owners are kidding themselves about the values holding. They have dropped at least 10 to 15% in the past 8 months . I’d value this at £6500-£6800 unserviced and the case being unpolished and good.

Interesting, what difference if any would no paperwork/box make and worn well but not abused ?

Without paperwork I’d pay £500 less I would think. Condition is key to me as you can’t really start adding metal to an over polished case. Also Rolex bezels aren’t cheap anymore even if they are the non ceramic versions.

How can you tell it's overpolished with one poor face shot & no pictures of case sides?
    Just asking.

Looks like a good example to me and nice creamy plots.
7.5K comfortably I'd say with that patina.

Looking face on the lugs seem to have similar profiles so maybe (only maybe) it's not been over done. Bracelet looks like it has a fair amount of stretch given the gap between the end link and the first bracelet section.

Allowing for a service t's probably £6k ish

Does look like a nice one. Certainly over £7k, I’d say. It’s not been overpolished.

I wasn't clear - factoring a service and (possibly) a bracelet in to the estimate.

The lugs look good and thick to me, there appears to be the bevelled edge present although this was most likely done at service, pretty sure these cases of this era were without the bevel from the factory.

Pretty sure Subs/Seadwellers have always had bevels.

Neil - my mate, is a national key account manager and away from home until Thursday, he'll answer any questions Thursday / Friday and supply extra photos to help with the estimate.

I was under the impression that chamfers/bevels stopped in the 80's at some point. Anything more modern that displays the (Bexley) Bevel has been back to RSC. Would love to know from more knowledgeable members.

Bevels were present right through the 80s.
Bexley bevel was just a more pronounced one done at that particular RSC

Back in the mid 90's he bought mine, sold it after about two years and has been a happy Speedmaster wearer since about 2005, since then from memory the Rolex hasn't seen much wear, but to be fair we only get together for a curry about every two months.

More photos, Neil is going to contact Rolex to try to find out what was done in the service, he thinks it was a full service but as it's 26 years ago his memory isn't so clear.

Very nice. Case has been refinished but looks like by Rolex, still lots of meat on it. I'd list for £7.5k if it were mine, it's an attractive one.

    Rolex - sigh - again. 16600

I don’t think your mate needs to go to the trouble of contacting Rolex TBH Number2, it was so long ago that it really is irrelevant.

It really needs another service now and then sell it with a fresh service. I’m not up on prices but that’s surely the way to maximise his return.

    Very nice watch though.

Depending on the service cost - a bracelet will push the service over £1k I guess, then its a low £7k all day.

Don't get pressured into getting it serviced.
You won't get 1k back in value on here.

If a must, just send to
    https://www.timerepairs.co.uk/

He's rolex accredited and trained also just ask for a check movement service if it needs

It's a seadweller - so even an average loose watch has got to be worth 5.5-6k even in current times . Add the best part of 1k onto that for B & P and the fact it looks to be in reasonable nick .

    Ask 6.9 take 6.75?

    All IMHO

  41. #41
    Lovely trit 16600
Price it at £6.5-£7k doubt it will hang around for that

New owner can service it as and when he wants or enjoy it the now and worry about a movement service later on

Nice full sets like that getting harder to find especially tritium ones

Last serviced 26 years ago so anybody buying it will want to factor in the cost of a service and will no doubt err on the high side.

Much better IMHO, to get a service done (or at least a quote from RSC) so the buyer can work out the true cost to buy the watch, which looks amazing for its age and as mentioned previously, being a one owner full set makes it quite rare for a watch of its age so should fetch a premium.

It’s not just any old 16600 so valuing it is difficult for those of us not in the trade.

    Not guilty your honour.
But I honestly couldnt care less, just saying of it did end up on the SC, after people here have been pushing for it to get serviced it won't add the value of the service from RSC at nearly £1000. It may only make it more appealing for a buyer but that shouldn't affect the guys decision to send it in.
With this thing there are always more than one camp, some say service, others say don't bother, some don't give a damn.

Personally I don't really give a damn but I say don't feel pressured by people on here saying it needs service because it adds value. It doesn't really IMO

Half the people will want it serviced but won’t want to pay a price reflecting the service.

The other half won’t want a service but will bid you because it needs one.

Cant win. Just do what you want.

Neil isn't a member of the forum, he's by best mate of over 30 years, he's just asked for opinions on its value, nor am I selling it on his behalf, - should that change I'd put any interested parties in direct touch with him and step away from any future involvement.
