Looking at Atleti-Real last night I'm not sure we should have wanted Atletico - Real were very open. They'll be favourites but if Saka's back at the end of month like predicted then that gives us a better chance. Maybe 25% chance assuming the refs give Real all the decisions.
That’s the kiss of death for Villa, then.

Possibly but then they beat the runaway Bundesliga leaders. Football has a habit of bringing up surprises and that same PSG team were spanked by Arsenal at the Emirates a few months ago and struggled in the group stages. Form comes and goes. I'd agree a peak PSG gets through Villa but is a peak PSG guaranteed?

they didnt have dembele that night or hadnt signed kvaradona, i think its fair to see that PSG have progressed immeasurably as the season has gone on rather than a form thing, its 5.5 months since they played arsenal.

The good things is we've got most of our injured players back now, and our results and perfomances have increased noticeably as a result. That's 5 wins in 6 now, with 7 goals in 5 from Asensio, who frankly, is ridiculously good, so good that I do wonder what he's doing at Villa to be honest. The international break has come at a good time for us, so we can give a few players a well needed break. Then for Champiosn League quarters, we've got the away leg in Paris first, so hopefully if we can keep it tight out there, we'll have a reasonable chance at home, where we've beaten Bayern Munich and should have beaten Jeuventus already. Exciting times.

Asensio was a superb loaner, no doubt about that. I can’t see him staying unless there’s an obligation to buy.

Ironically Arsenal are the only team in CL history to have a positive net record against Real Madrid. In fact Real Madrid have never beaten Arsenal.

Granted we've only played them 6 times but I'll take any edge, no matter how tenuous!

    Weird
Didn't see Real get much last night.
Said the opposite during the game that ref was giving Atletico everything.

There’s no obligation to buy clause although apparently a lowish fee is agreed in principle. His wages would be the main issue, so I think we’d need Champions League again to afford him.

Other than that though, he’s enjoying his football and likes playing for Emery who is clearly getting the best out of him.

You won’t see two better goals in one game for a long time, never mind by the same player! £106m paid over three years is a bargain and a brilliant bit of business. Dreamland for Arsenal tonight.

I'll take it! Didn't see 3-0 happening but I think that was probably the name Real Madrid that made me think that. In reality whilst we played well, Real were far below the level of some of the PL teams we've played this season and Courtois stopped them getting a battering.

Liverpool and Newcastle in particular were both miles better than Real Madrid based on the games we played against them this season.

Last night result was due to Real being made to look bad due to a cracking performance from the team not from the fact Real are a bad team.

And I know free kicks will rightly get the plaudits but MLS was unreal last night - you forget he’s 18 and walked around like he owned the left flank.

Remind me of Cesc vs Juve or Wiltshire in the 2-1 Barca win.

    Well done Arsenal.

What are the odds of 3-0 in the Bernabeu and RM go through on pens?

If they score in the first 15mins then there’s more than a decent chance I’d say.

Agreed. I predicted 2-1 but that was based on RM offering a lot more.

Modric played very deep and Mbappe/VJ were kept very quiet.

    Great atmosphere though.

Great performance from Arsenal. But beware of counting the poultry just yet. Real in the Bernabeu may well be a very different animal.

TBF I'd rather race PSG in the next round than Villa, strange though it sounds. Emery knows how to get the upper hand on Arteta yet we pumped PSG in the group stage and have the physicality to control midfield. Appreciate they've gotten better since then though

Probably as you'd think PSG will score at Villa Park as Emery won't be able to park the bus so Villa would need at least 4

Wonder if there is someone on a French watch forum saying Villa were far below the standard of the Ligue 1 teams they have played this season.

Before they played Liverpool I’d never given them much thought.

Just thought they were classic PSG, walking the French league but crap when coming up against the big sides.

They’ve wrecked both Liverpool and Villa, they are the real deal. Ultra pace all over the team.

They are favourites to lift it for me.

This might just be their year. The pace, commitment to the press and obviously ability is very impressive. Barca and PSG will take some beating.

Some good matches, good to see lots of attacking football and goal, which you don’t always get in the later stages of the CL

Arsenal - just an outstanding result and performance, but it is far from over. I think we can hold on but it will be close

PSG - look really good, could have scored 5 or 6, would actually like them to win it especially after Mbappe left to win the CL.

Barca - looking really good, Raphina stealing that goal was bad, RL is still playing at a top level for being 36

Bayern - can still see them beating inter

Could be a PSG v Barca final.

The three PSG goals last night were magnificent. At 2-1 down it was looking doable (being one goal down playing away at PSG) but a two-goal defecit is going to be tough to deal with. We set up to defend and hit them on the break and to come back to Villa Park with as little damage as possible. What's the worst that can happen though? We have to go for it.

Tie over. Rashford fails to control an easy ball for the third time in 10 minutes. From there it’s a defensive shit show. Best keeper in the world my arse.

I've seen nothing from PSG to overly scare me. They're a very good side but a bit powderpuff in midfield and at the back.

Tonight's PSG was very similar in performance to the one that was physically overwhelmed in midfield at the Emirates and I also recall Liverpool missing a hatful of chances at Anfield.

If we don't beat them Inter will do them.
