    Opinions on Solovair Boots

I was talking to a friend about Dr Martens boots and he said they were nowhere near as good as they were, being foreign made and very expensive now for a lesser quality.
He said I should try Solovair, he said they're made by Ex DM staff in the old factory, on the original lasts & and machinery, but to the original quality.
I like the idea of this, has anyone got any experience of Solovair ("Sole-of-Air" apparently), either good or bad?
    Thanks,

Yes they are very good got a couple of pairs.

Go to the solovair website and possibly pick up some bargains from the sale and seconds section.

I’ve lots of experience and they’re superb. Great designs and absolute quality. They usually have a fair selection in their outlet too which you can link to from the main site. Don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed.

Its very well known that they are better, people have taken both to bits on youtube and discussed it to death

The Solovair (NPS factory) produced the fist DM's.

Solovair and Airwair Cobbs lane factory are constantly losing and gaining workers from each other.

Many, many moons ago, I wore 'Made in England' DM boots and shoes for work. I stopped wearing them about 15 years ago but recently fancied another pair. I purchased some 1460's but just could not get on with them so sold them. I then purchased some Solovair boots but again I found them uncomfortable so they too were sold.

I am renowned in my family for being a 'princess and the pea' when it comes to shoes and pillows! However, to give some perspective, with the Solovairs and DM's I found them to be too wide and hence uncomfortable to wear.

I have narrow feet. I tried several sizes and wore them them with DM socks and others and despite everyone telling me that I needed to break them in nothing made them comfortable. Oh, well ...........

Thanks for the reply. I note your point about the width but that's fine for me as I have the opposite issue in that I have wide feet so the fact that they come up wide is good to hear.

More like grumpy middle aged bloke whose wife has just got some cool boots and who missed the cherry red 1490s of his student days...

My dad a shop selling footwear 1980s thru 1990s.
Used to go to the NPS/Solovair factory to collect them. Always thought they were better quality than Airwair.
We bought them in a myriad of colours, black through purple to yellow to red patent. The girls lapped up the bright colours.
Tredaire was another alternative DM brand I remember.
I remember the 8 eyelet boots retailed for £32-£35. Happy days.

Depends on the last, I have a pair of Gibson shoes and a pair of Chelsea boots, the boot is pretty slim compared to the Gibson.
Both are very comfortable however with hardly any break in needed.

5941/6X is the wide last. 261/262 is the medium last, and 84 is the narrow last.

Do you recognise the last number 409? I saw a pair I like & this is the quoted last number.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Apologies, the lasts I quoted are DM, not NPS.

Ah, sorry for the confusion, I had assumed (always a bad idea) that they were the same, my mistake. They say that the 409 is wide though.

All this Solovair chat reminded me to dig out my pair and pop them on the SC!
