Certainly wasn't end to end stuff. More like side to side. A fairly tedious watch with the odd moment of excitement thrown in.

Yup agreed...England seemed to run out of steam somewhat in the 2nd half...that niggling fitness issue perhaps...be interesting to see how they fair up against the young, fit, better Spaniards.

If you watch a replay you can see Phil Foden with his arm up once Harry is on the ground and Bellingham draws the ref's attention to it too.

It was one of those situations where the player who was second was always going to commit a foul.

I really donít understand why so many canít see that, unless Iím missing something?

You changed my mind, though it still seems harsh.

Saying that a lot of the new rules/VAR seems harsh so it probaly balances itself out in the long run.

I donít think so, I think it more a case of Dutch changes cancelling out England first half superiority.

And Iím not sure when the rules changed to state that a penalty can only be awarded if players appeal.

Just an aside/ observation really didn't Bellingham blatantly shove a Dutchie in the back after the bloke'd got past him fair and square, 2nd half this was I think...very poor conduct imo...

Could be the squad changes Dave as you suggest. Moot really innit now in fairness. Hopefully Sunday's ref is even handed.

    Onwards to Sunday.

I'm for watching it on the big screen in our neighbourhood association bar/ restaurant, should be a good laugh, atmos...cerveza's are certainly the right price, frosted glasses straight from freezer, bonus.

Have a look at the infringement. Pause at 40 seconds then use the < and > keys to step forwards / backwards by one frame at a time. The defense move looks like something out of MMA. You can also see at least four England players immediately appeal to the ref.

Anyway, the was it / wasn't it question has now been definitvely answered. GBNews says it wasn't a penalty, so it definitely was.

Yes looking at it again the defenders leg is moving towards Kane's leg, if he misses the ball (which he does) he's always going to make contact with Kane. I would says it is an attempted tackle not just a block. It's a penalty for me.

One of the good things in the tournament has been the absence of VAR getting involved in ridiculous decisions and giving penalties for nothing especially the hand ball incidents
Nobody would have batted an eyelid on this when it was correctly not given.
Ref should have stuck to his guns when going to the monitor.

It obviously was not correctly not given; both the VAR team and the referee ultimately decided it WAS a penalty.

    That's hardly a glowing endorsement!

  16. #1266
Can you imagine the uproar if the penalty decision had been the other way around and the Netherlands were awarded a pen for the same event.

  17. #1267
Christ guys, who gives a rats arse?
Too many times weíve gone out on a dodgy ref decision, disallowed goal, etc etc
It was a penalty given and it was dispatched really well. We won 2-1, weíre in the final.
Who cares, letís take the win and look forward to winning something FFS.

The penalty was harsh - but who cares payback for 92 koeman (who I will add was hugely gracious in defeat didnt moan about it conceded we were very good on the night etc)

Maradonna handball, campbells goal in 2004, lampards over the line, etc etc you need the breaks to win tournaments and we got it

I was at Box Park Wembley last night and the atmosphere was electric throughout and what a way to win the scenes were amazing!!!

Watkins and Palmer looked dynamite when they came on, they should definitely start on Sunday.

Re the penalty, pretty obvious to me, studs up challenge in the box? Foul anywhere else on the pitch, do it in the box it's a pen.

Foden incredibly unlucky with his two efforts.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

NOT A CHANCE hell make wholesale changes like that and why would he???

the only possible change for me is shaw for Trippier as i think the balance of the team is better but I expect hell start the same team

His subs have all worked he trusts the players and the subs to do the job - and its worked for him

I don't think it was a penalty but your side played a decent game (at last!) and Watkins' goal was fantastic. Just a shame it had to be against us.

You're going to need a miracle this Sunday though.

Having reflected for 24 hours I'd have to concede that it's a penalty in the modern game. I don't agree but I understand why it was given. If Kane was passing that ball down the line and, after the ball was played, Dumfries catches him in the way he did then it's given as a foul every time.

Look for footage 5 secs before the incident. Saka touches the ball with hands (plural!).

    Oh FFS! Viva Espana!!!!

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics...land-win-euros

Keir Starmer has said he wants to ďmark the occasionĒ if England win the Euros football tournament, after the team beat the Netherlands to secure a place in Sundayís final.
However, the prime minister stopped short of confirming there would be a bank holiday if Gareth Southgateís team emerged victorious from their final against Spain, saying that he did not want to ďjinxĒ the outcome.

The Liberal Democrats have led calls for an extra bank holiday after England claimed a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Starmer previously supported calls for a bank holiday when Englandís womenís football team made it to the World Cup final last year.

As for studs up sorry but thatís not studs up. You can see itís his toe that is almost contacting the ball. Lane strikes the studs from the bottom up - his studs are facing the turf in the picture above. And letís not forget Saka handled it twice a second before which the ref and var team conveniently ignored completely. Good luck to England but justifying this penalty as a correct decision is laughable. The hand ball is here https://twitter.com/Tribalgooner91/s...63220318785823

Well I do live in Spain, have done for the last 13 years, and I love it. The Spanish lads have played with skill and passion beating the likes of France and Germany to deservedly win their place in the final. The England teams performance has been decidedly unimpressive, extra time, penalty merchants, dodgy Ref assistance...as one comment I read the other day eloquently put it... To try and compare Spain's performance with Englandīs is like comparing marmalade with poop, well in fairness he used the S word but G n D . Chuckle.

Viva Espana...consider it a kindness, the last thing you lot need is another Bank Holiday, it will only rain.
