    Watch and Strap Sailcloths

I thought I'd post a quick review of the Sailcloth strap I bought from www.watchandstrap.co.uk. I do love the look of a good sailcloth but am always wary of spending £150-odd on an Artem strap and then having the worry of being stung with import tax and handling charges. Someone on the CW Forum pointed me in the direction of these and I have to say I am very impressed.

Their straps are £24.99 (which is only 99p more than Zuludiver/Watch Gecko charge for a NATO!) and come in a variety of colours and stitching, the base colours being black, blue and green. I went for the khaki green for by BB Pro. They taper 2mm, so 20mm > 18mm in the case of mine. I also own a Zuludiver Mayday Sailcloth which is a whopping £48 and tapers from 20mm to 16mm. Both include QR springbars. The Zuludiver in black:

I'm very impressed. I don't currently have need for a blue one but if I do, I'll definitely be buying another, and am even considering replacing my Zuludiver with a black one from W&S.

    Nice strap.

So what do you like about it more than the Zuludiver version, is it just the price difference or is it better quality?

It feels more premium. It's more supple - the Zuludiver's padding feels quite artificial, like there's a bit of cardboard under it or something. The material also feels more premium on the W&S one, I think. Probably subjective but I don't think I'll be using the Zuludiver any more.

    Thanks. I might try one.

    I picked up another:

I bought one of these sailcloth straps last week. Just put the watch on this morning for the first wear and noticed the sailcloth near the lug end is coming away from the padding. Sent them and email, hopefully they can rectify the issue.

Update - They are sending another to replace the damaged one. I think the material has lifted due to it being quite a tight fit between the lugs but I’ll see on the new one.

I went with the £15 mystery strap option on my order and received a rather nice dark blue padded leather which seems good quality.

I received the replacement today and it’s perfect. Looks great on my PVD watch and very comfortable to wear. Thanks for the heads up.

Was looking at an Artem (hence the search on the word Artem) and came across this thread. Like the look of these so might order one for my Damasko DA38. Just wondering if I should go for a normal buckle or the butterfly clasp?

Just to give an update which might help someone in the future. I ordered a 20mm black sailcloth with blue stitching from this company - £28 inc delivery so not a bad price at all. When it arrived I was a bit underwhelmed if I'm being honest. Not sure what I was expecting, but it just felt a bit "cheap". Subsequently bought a Hirsch Robby in black and blue which suits the watch a lot better. I think for £28 their sailcloths are about on the money, but certainly not comparable to the Hirsch, although it's obviously 3 times the price.

Thanks for the heads up. I've just ordered one of these

...I think it may work well on my X-33 Solar impulse ... as a bit of a change from the NATO.

Pretty sure they had this in mind when they decided to produce this colour combo
