Is this CWC's worst idea yet?

SBS diver minus day/date but with skull and crossbones in luminous green covering most of dial.

I love CWC for a number of their models including 'heritage' reissues but I do despair ..

It’s aimed at the Submarine boys.
Traditionally they fly a skull and crossbones after a successful kill.

Yes, I read the marketing blurb - but what has that to do with producing a watch with a huge luminous skull and crossbones on the dial?

The only boys who are likely to be excited about these are the 13 and 14 year olds who may already be saving up their pocket money for one.

Oh wow, double whammy of horrid CWC this morning. Looks like it was designed by kids. I don't care if it's symbolic, it's horrible!

Yes, no, maybe. Can’t decide if this or the white dial release is worse!

I'm the happy owner of two CWC's, but I won't be adding this to my collection LOL.

Is that "no, it isn't CWC's worst idea yet"?

Or is that "no, argh, my eyes, take it away"?

I think we know, but just asking for a friend...

That just spoils a very good looking watch.

I am on Silvermans mailing list and they sent me one yesterday, so without further a do I had a browse at the RAN Clearance diver watch, but you can only buy it if you are a member of the aforementioned service and the buyer is required to produce there mil id card and or other proof of id.

I think CWC has another worse idea - the new font! I have noticed it my CWC GS which is still subtle when comparing to the CWC Mellor 72. Who on earth signed off that new font?

Do you mean the pre 1983 font?
I prefer it to the serif font in the oval which was introduced around 1982/3

The actual numerals. My Mellor 72 has a plain simple font which I think suited the watch. Now it has serif font (if that’s the correct font name). Rather reprint from new, it looks like dials have had a touch up, which is very noticeable on the top of the number 4 and 7.

Yes it's horrible but probably appeals to the American market.

Can you elaborate on that last part?

The font has a quirky British charm, like Mr. Bean?

Without context, it seems like a daft comment.

I assumed he was commenting on the skull & crossbones dial not realising that that was posted over a year ago, the thread having been recently resurrected with a new issue.

Still doesn't explain why he thought the American market would go for it though.
