Hi-Beat for me. Dial looks more balanced and a little more interesting, plus a proper bracelet is always good as a leather is easy to find.

    What's the price disparity?

That's a heck of a whack, but that Hi-Beat movement is a work of art.

    Still Hi-Beat.

Spring drive if I had to pick one
Purely for the movement being different

    They are very different
    High beat

I like the idea of Spring drive, in a different case

    Hi beat

Hi beat for me. Bracelet essential, much easier to switch to a strap than to a bracelet. The case is a more interesting shape and has a clean dial. They’re chalk and cheese though really with 3k difference.

Tending towards the hi beat although research hints at accuracy issues with the 80hrs movement.

Very different watches. I am on the fence with GS but tried a few on in the boutique recently. I asked them about the Hi beat 80hr reliability issues and they were a little cagey...
If I was buying my first GS it would be a spring drive of some sort. I can't bear the PR on the dial so personally I wouldn't chose either of those, but if forced would go for the spring drive.
This is my current favourite GS:

I'd go for Hi-beat, but on a strap. I've personally not seen a Seiko bracelet that I like yet - or even one that doesn't look cheap compared to other similarly priced brands for that matter.

Had a number of both movements - although not those models.
Spring drive is novel, but there was a bit of me that never fully took to it. Something too technical and quartzy about it.
(I am totally wrong, but was how I felt)

My hi-beats were/are the recent version - but not the 80hrs.
I like it, find it robust and very accurate. Also like all the blurb about it and the manufacture process on the GS website.

Just from your photo, I prefer the look of the Spring Drive, and don’t object to the PR dial at all.

    Certainly is!

That's how the dial should look.

Is it for yourself, or will it be a forum pass-around?

They are so different you could have both. A hi-beat and a spring drive.
    THIN is the new BLACK
