Sinn New models - Spring Novelties 2024

    https://www.sinn.de/en/New_Watches.htm

Some nice new models. Great to see the U50 Hydro (basically a smaller UX).

    What do we think?

    I don’t really get the U50 hydro
The original EZM2 was smaller (thinner) and contained the hydro tech.
Why not re release that? They use a similar case on the EZM3, although keeping the case for the 3 enables clear model definition.

So I guess what I actually don’t get is the model naming convention. The 2B should never been a 2 it should have been a U and I am really over thinking this.

In short I will not be buying one.

I like it except for the quartz movement, and I don't think any change/upgrade to the clasp.

Sinn New models - Spring Novelties 2024

I’ve never liked the proportions of the U50, the bezel looks too big, the dial too small, and the watch wears small.

The Hydro thing a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and it complicates the servicing, although its party trick viewing angle is cool. I like the aesthetics of the UX, tech not withstanding.

Nothing in that line up that tempts me.

The 103 St Sa Commerzbank looks nice but I have the 103 ti Diapal already & much prefer that.

It has to be quartz to have enough torque to remain accurate working immersed in silicone fluid.

This! They got the proportions badly wrong IMO. I prefer the overall size, but they should have retained the proportions of the U1 and UX.

As an Eintracht fan the 125th anniversary watch is great!

I thought that was standard for a 356. I know people love it but the height of 7750 has ruined more than one chronograph for me.

Yeah, crazy. I was ready to purchase the U50 Hydro until I read the movement details. No where near the accuracy of the ETA movement in the UX, and probably a shorter battery change interval.

Sinn seem to have really dropped off in terms of innovation and ideas. A shame as they were a favourite of mine when I first got into watches.

    I had the same thought.
I love the older Sinns but the recent new releases leave me cold and half wondering why they bothered.

    I think they’re a bit stuck.

When you’re a watch company trying to sell more watches, you can either

    1. Reiterate and evolve designs like Rolex does
    2. Bring out new models with new features

They had so much innovation (tegimenting, oil filled cases, argon, hydrophilic capsules) that there aren’t many avenues left to explore.

My main issue is they stick a new dial design and sapphire crystal in a watch they’ve been making in exactly the same way for 15 years and charge an 80% uplift. There’s no sense of trying to push things forward.

The new clasp is the most exciting thing they’ve come up with this year and that’s a really standard design. It’s a missed opportunity, in my eyes. If new engineering isn’t possible, why not try something other than h-link or an engineer bracelet? Or modify movements like Damasko have been doing? Or make a matte ceramic bezel (like a pelagos) standard on the new watches? There are so many little things they could be doing but it just all looks a bit tired and lazy.

Prices are listed for the new models now on Chronomaster https://www.chronomaster.co.uk/new/?b-sinn

I remember the days when Sinn were still a semi-reasonable proposition but they seem intent on trying to price themselves close to (or in line) with the Swatch brands. I know they include all the proprietary tech (tegimented steel, gas filling,, oil filling etc) but most of it IMO is unnecessary at best, or makes servicing or refinishing more difficult/expensive at worst. Certainly it doesn't much warrant the prices they're asking for their newest releases or the increases on their back catalogue.

I think the hand winding 103 Chrono looks ok value. Not too chubby and a nice vintage vibe. Think I will reach out to Neil to reserve one.

Good move I think, these may become quite sought after given the spec, nicely domed acrylic, traditional bezel, hand wound, 20bar and no screw down pushers plus relatively slim for a Sinn 103 and the nice throwback touches of red.

I liked it as soon as I saw it.

If I get one I will probably treat it to a vintage Corfam to bring out those Heuer vibes. Or cheap out with a repro like this
