    Question about vintage Burberry raincoats.

I'm old enough to start wearing a Burberry raincoat and I've decided that it should be a vintage one. This one is for sale online, and just what I'm looking for.
It is a shame that the size is not suited for me. But... I cannot find another one like this one, simply because I don't know the name of this colour and/or the changing colour effect.

Does anyone know how this colour is called and/or how the effect is called?

The effect is called 'tonic' or 'changeant'.

Burberry is bringing it back for its Summer 2024 line, apparently.

    Question about vintage Burberry raincoats.

Big fan of a Burberry Mac - timeless design and a staple piece of the Wadrobe/ fashion over function. Though if I’m being honest

If you can head to there outlet in Hackney I’ve picked up all mine from there and some bargains to be had compared to rrp

Mines a Kensington black and blue a moredean and last is a packable Mac

Picked my vintage trench up for £85 on SC.

Not sure Id stump up the thick end of £2k for a new one.

You may also want to look at Aquascutum if you’re going to go second hand.

Since a few of you are seasoned owners: how are the sizes/fit? I think that my purchase will be from a webshop and I have no idea how Burberry fits. The coat I posted is an XL and I am between XL and XXL. That depends on the brand.

I know you've said you've decided on Burberry, but I have a few coats from Private White including their Ventile Mac. Fantastic quality, and with sales a common feature I say they're good value for money. I managed to find mine on eBay unworn for a third of RRP. I've had more compliments on my Mac than any other item of clothing I can think of.

They do tend to have other colours.

I’ve got an aquascutum one of the last ones before they went out of business beautifully made and very similar in quality to Burberry but less than half the price

My Mrs picked up a vintage Burberrys mac a couple of weeks ago on Vinted for £80 in excellent condition, so absolutely worth keeping an eye open on there.

The one thing to say is that while the look is timeless, they are not as waterproof as more modern fabrics (and that includes the Ventile above if it’s single layer). Nikwax tech wash will improve it but if you’re caught out in a proper downpour you will get wet.

I think Burberry trench are only shower proof, so hardly waterproof at all.

A bit like waxed cotton. Modern fabrics are so much better.

I wear my Burberry trench out of style, not to keep me totally dry.

My wife is a dedicated Vinted buyer and I took a look there as well. Some nice items (Burberry's) for sale indeed. But non with the 'tonic' effect. I decided to order the one I posted above. I can send it back with a full refund. And they have a brick and mortar shop as well for returns if feel the need to do so.
