    A bag of watches

Going through the estate of a family member and interested about these watches that were in a bag.

The Hamilton and vertex both appear to be issued.

    Very nice finds.

The Vertex (Thommen SA Fabrique d'Horologie, Switzerland) is a W.W.W. British Army watch from 1945. One of an estimated 15,000 Vertex W.W.W. Chromed case, 15 jewel Thommen movement.

    The Hamilton is a 60s/70s 6B RAF watch. Cal.75. 6B-9614045 hacking and 6B-9101000 non-hacking.

This Hamilton, the Smiths W10 and IWC Mk11 are my absolute favourite watches.

As Billy Casper says the Vertex and Hamilton are issued and are great finds.
The Hamilton is quite a desirable watch. It looks to be the first non hacking version - the case back will confirm.

Great finds. Can’t add much more, but the Hamilton and Vertex are definitely the two winners. Probably looking at £1500-1750 for the pair as is.

To take a photo, in the first instance.

    Nice find.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Very nice! Do you have any plans to get them restored or is it too early to decide yet?

What do you reckon current values are in tidy condition? Hamilton >£1,250, Vertex ~£750?

Prices have been a bit unpredictable for the last year or two, but I’d say those numbers are pretty much bang on. The Vertex hasn’t got the best condition case so it’ll never get top dollar. The Hamilton looks like it’ll clean up well. Of course so much hinges on the casebacks too, so need to see pics.

Both look good, although it’s always a shame when people have tried (and failed) to open casebacks using a pair of scissors. The Vertex has a correct case as the numbers are on the seven o’clock lug. It’s the same midcase as the Lemania and Record so you can only confirm with the position of the numbers. It’s not the original caseback though as the numbers don’t match. This is common and not too much to worry about.

There’s a log of Hamilton’s over on MWR if you fancy adding it to the list. Yours seems to have been converted from fixed bars to springbars. That’ll hit the value significantly.

Thanks - the plan is to keep in family I think so value less important than knowing what they are.

It’s always good to have it in mind though, as it can influence how much money to spend on restoration, and further down the line if they decide to sell it’ll give them a reference point.

Just be careful you carefully direct the family conversation about restoration and don't let any of the forum dial-refinishers talk you into ruination. The people who I would trust for advice have all contributed to this thread.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I was handed the bag and told "sort this!" so I guess that is down to me!

I have the exact same Ingersoll bought from an antique market for £20. Timekeeping is rubbish BTW.
Still, for 20 quid a nice thing to have for very little money. Might get it serviced ay some point in time.
