Sky Sports F1 reports that Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari for the 2025 season.

Hamilton, who holds the record for the most Grand Prix wins in the world, joined Mercedes back in 2013 after a 6-year stint with McLaren. He signed a contract extension with Mercedes in 2023 for two more years.

The 7-time F1 World Champion's last win for Mercedes was at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in December 2021.

Very suprised to read this potential move this morning. I think it would be exciting if it does happen. I always assumed Hamilton would see out his career with Mercedes.

The BP has hosted one for a while so people can call each other c**ts and indulge in thinly-veiled xenophobia and racism.

    More importantly, it's sealion-free.

If Merc sign Sainz maybe they could have him now and send Lewis to Italy now, like a football loan deal. Makes sense rather than trying to hide next season secrets from a driver.

    Shouldn't this be a F1 2025 thread?

Does this mean that Lord Louis of Hambleton thinks that the 2024 Mercedes is bobbins?

More likely a get out of jail card, can blame Merc for his poor showing again in 24. At least he’’’ll get on the list for a special Ferrari to add to his collection in 25.

Alternatively Ferrari is the big brand that he can use to leverage his social media persona and celebrity status for when he surely soon retires and lives on the celebrity circuit.

You mean like his "poor showing" in 2023 where he finished top of the teams that had no chance of winning the championship and 5 places above his teamate?

A Dutch reporter mentioned an interesting factor: Will Toto Wolf have sit-downs with the team with or without Lewis during the season when they discuss upgrades etc. It's not often that a driver stays with a team for a whole season after he has announced to jump ship (to a rival).

Or: will Mercedes 'invest' in making Hamilton successful this year?

Hamilton finishing that far in front of Russell doesn't reflect the season, https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/g...023-untangled/

I think it’ll depend on how fast the car is. If Hamilton ends up in a title battle, of course they will (but only upgrades etc that are relevant to this season).

I think the reality is that Merc will end up with the 3rd or 4th quickest car.

Interesting read. Quick in quali, but too error prone when under pressure.

Sounds like a lesser version of LeClerc.

    Good for George though.
