    Here comes the next storm!

Looking pretty hairy tonight. Amber warning here in the Midlands with XC weather predicted 36mph winds and gusting up to 68mph.

I know that's going to be causing damage around here so go knows what it will be like on western coasts.

    Here comes the next storm!

If you have nothing better for a wet and windy Sunday, I can recommend an hour of watching Big Jet TV later on YouTube, and watching the planes at Heathrow landing into storm force crosswinds.

    https://www.youtube.com/live/iS_DEtX...tSa_yHCc3pYYo-

Another good one is this, and you can see what is going on around the U.K.

Upcoming night it will be here. I've just finished cutting all fallen trees (previous storms) into logs. I am glad there aren't leaves on the trees. Oh btw, next storm coming up on Tuesday/Wednesday... It depends on where you live.

I'm off to Heathrow (Myrtle Avenue) after 3pm when the runways switch and we can see the planes land over our heads (my son loves it!). Hoping to see some touch and go's, it's always great to see the skill of the pilots.

Sounds like my day of great avgeek fun! Enjoy with you son.

I am out and about on my Brompton, so really should cycle (or be blown) up that way and take the SL7 bus back.

Nah.....Leeds is much better, pretty much always a xwind, but the main issue is the hump in the runway as the Pilots often mentioned during chats whilst refuelling.

Amazing and breathtaking views. Today must have been interesting with the conditions.

All calm here now (South Wales). We had a storm for sure, but not much to it where I am, couple of plants blown over seems to be the sum total. I think we got off lightly, we've had far worse this winter.
    Anyone else had real problems?

Dutch newspapers mention 'Code Red' in parts of Scotland and a lot of damage on your side of the North Sea.

Things are pretty safe and sound here. The most-eastern part of the storm hit us, and that's not the most severe part. Max windspeed (gusts) 56 knots around 4AM. A quick scan shows that all trees are still pointing upwards. Perhaps things are different further into the forest. Especially birch trees have a hard life these days. Some have snapped off, 4-6 m above the ground during previous storms.

Next up: rain. What else is new. The good thing is that the ice in the ponds in the forest is gone. The snow melted away yesterday when the temps rose quickly in front of the storm. That makes it easier for wildlife to drink again.

Next up II: will this become the warmest Jan 22nd in history? The national record is 12.3℃ for this day.

Hah - it turns out to make sure planes were in right places for morning flights that Ryanair did some whacky diverts.

A Stansted to Newquay flight that ended up in... Malaga.

A Manchester to Stansted flight that ended up in... Budapest.

    I would not complain!!!

The next storm will be here (easterly part of the Netherlands) late Tuesday evening, early Wednesday morning. So yes, I guess that the wind's picking up again west of the UK.

That’s utterly bonkers. Wow, the call to your boss in the morning would be an interesting one.

Two broken plant pots and the chiminea has blown over, otherwise you wouldn't have known we'd had a storm.

Nothing damaged or blown down around here although when I took Dot out this morning there were quite a few old branches down in the woods behind our house.

Ridge tile came bouncing down the roof about 10.30 and cracked off a bit of guttering on the way down before impaling itself into the lawn-would have done someone some serious damage if it hit them.
Think i saw another tile off too but will do full inspection later when home.

Hood, when Storm Arwen came through a 12” X 12” roof tile blew off the neighbours roof. It put a hole in the roof of their car, then split in two and put two sizeable dents in my wife’s car :(

Now whenever the wind picks up , Im out there checking the roofs ;)

Next storm on its way and I have a London to Middlesbrough train trip tomorrow, returning Wednesday. At least the company is paying if I get stuck or badly delayed.

Pfff a quick look on https://www.windy.com/?52.382,4.899,5 shows that there's a complete 'train' coming towards Ireland and the UK. It's stays 'purple' on that map for 5, 6 days.

there was an interesting comment on the news earlier which mentioned that internal flights do not require a passport so any internal flights diverted to another country were slightly more problematic than you might imagine. It's not like you can just find the next flight back home if you don't have your passport with you.

You want ‘interesting’ landings? We travel to Funchal airport in Madeira 2-3 times a year, wind limits are 25-30 knots dependent on runway use and direction, pilots are specially trained and certified for there, was worse before they extended the runway.

Thought we had got away with it although the wind was really loud last night.

Got up to take Dot out through the woods and a ruddy great tree had fallen across my back fence and gate.

Three hours with a chainsaw with my Wife helping me eventually cleared it all with the debris going back in the woods!

    I ache all over now.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

No damage (yet), but here the storm is bigger and longer than expected / forecasted. When working in my workshop, it was like a hailstorm on the roof: twigs etc. And that sounds like a drum! I admit that I looked up from time to time to see if the roof was still intact…

The winds have certainly picked up here on the North Wales coast, weather app says about 40mph, and the forecast is up to 45mph on and of for the next three days.

Beautifully warm with no breeze at all.

Dot's been out for a walk and I've cut the lawn.
