Am I right in thinking that there was an equally rubbish programme on many years ago under the same name?

There was one; yes. About 2100 years ago iirc. I heard it was quite good.

It's Saturday night rubbish for families to watch as a bit of a laugh.

It ain't that deep, enjoy it for what it is.

I know my 10 year won't want to watch telly on a Saturday night with me in 4 or 5 years time, so I'm happy to get.on board.

    Gladiators ready.......

That face plant on the balance beam must of hurt. And I'm sure they turned the travelator down in the end for the women.

Spot on, watched it myself in 90s as a kid and my kids are loving it . Great family viewing . Not sure its target audience are middle aged men.

I rather enjoyed it, it was a regular Saturday night watch when I was in my teens, harmless silly fun without any need to commit to watching a full episode or the whole season. My kids seemed to like it too.

    Exactly.

Although I don't watch it now my boys loved it back in the day.

    It's harmless family entertainment.
    Cheers,

"Are you ready?" is now my catchphrase to class. They just find it bemusing how hilarious I find it.

Just about to mention her! Apparently she got married last summer, to a woman she met in a supermarket car park. I'll say no more but go Google it!

She was absolutely The One to myself and every male I knew circa 1994

Yes, my wife mentioned that last night.

She was most certainly the one for 16yr old me in the early 90s.

Also notice this series doesn’t call gladiators of colour names like Nightshade & Shadow. Very strange looking back.

Was on in the background at a friends last night for their kids, and glad they kept so many games from the original. A nice trip down memory lane, great to see their kids enjoy it, but not sure in our mid to late 40s we will watch it together. My niece loves it though, which I can’t wait to watch it with her.

I wish they'd bring back Hole in the Wall!

At least that was self-aware silliness.

It’s great family fun and anything that showcases general fitness to kids is a good thing in my book.
My young boys love watching it ( me too!)

I'm another that's happy to see it back on TV. I've watched it with my 9 year old daughter, and it's one of the few shows other than the Star Wars spin offs we're happy to watch together. It's good lighthearted family TV.

I've always defended the BBC, but this and that absolutely not funny Michael McIntyre show are a new low point.

I quite like it, mostly because my little girl 7yo is loving it. Happy that she’s not on YouTube for an hour a week lol.

I have to confess that I watched it this evening, a mistake that I won’t make again.

that could be one of the most odd comments I've read in a while. All I can think is 'and?'. It's almost a gossip magazine headline.

Judging by the ratings an awful lot of them do.

Not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal for family viewing.

I was at my daughter's & S in L's last night, (in their 40's) and they were glued to it!
I had to suffer it too unfortunately... It's 5pm stuff for kids.

    exactly.
You think all of the Gladiators got their physique by hard work alone? Tbh pumping myself with protein and god knows what else isn’t something I’d want to promote to any child.
