    Cool Fire & Ice

My recently acquired watches with "out there" extreme dials. I thought the group might enjoy the pics.

A bit of a Fire & Ice theme with the limited pair of Chopard Alpine Eagle "Tiffany" Maritime Blue and Straum x Fratello volcanic lava red fumé Jan Mayen.

(The Phoenix is only a prototype.)

Stunning watches and excellent photography. That Alpine Eagle is quite something.

    I love that straum

What are your thoughts on the watch? Worth it for a micro brand?

That CW twelve certainly holds its own in that company. Lovely photos. I think the twelve might have to go on my shopping list. What's it like on the wrist being titanium?

Was just thinking the same - someone who wasn't a WIS would struggle to work-out which was the premium brand amongst them.

Yes, I was very lucky to be allocated the Maritime Blue one, as I absolutely love the dial.

    I like it a lot.

Coincidentally, I’d only got it a couple of days before this review appeared. It gives a better perspective than I can give.

My high end alternative to the Straum was the Chopard Alpine Eagle Australian edition at 10x the price, so it wasn’t really comparable. Plus there was the fact that I already have an Alpine Eagle. There isn’t a close alternative I can think of.

The dial is pretty epic to be honest. And the bracelet is very good - better than on the Twelve.

In terms of quality, the CW twelve is probably a fair comparison. The CW wins on case finishing. The Straum wins on bracelet. Dials is a matter of personal preference and I love both. The Ti Twelve movement is comparable to the Straum, but the steel Twelve’s movement isn’t as good. The Twelve wins on case slimness too.

In short, the Straum is very much worth the money.

It wears super comfortably, light and v slim. A watch you can wear all day and forget it's on your wrist. I love it.

If you need/want weight, go for the steel version. But the fumé blue dial on this one is killer, and easily the best of the series production versions.

I do agree, but in the hand you start to feel and see significant differences. In complexity, finishing, feel, materials and weight. But all are impressive and hold their own.

The Alpine Eagle easily stands out as the top dog, but the Phoenix really gives it a run for its money - which is truly staggering at 1/5th of the price!

Thanks, I presumed it must be that using my unremarkable powers of deduction but good to know.

Have owned one since it came out. It is amazing. Really thin and light. And that dial is a work of art!

Indeed, the Maritime blue Alpine Eagle is really quite something.
