    PSA - global knife sale

Hi…. I know from the various knife threads that we have some fans of Global knives

Anyway…. I picked up a short blade bread knife and a smaller cooks knife to go with my other 3 global knives at a very good price ~60% discount

Anyway, here’s the link if anyone is interested?

    Some great bargains there!

Toying with ditching my curved pairing knife and getting another straight blade. It was a gift and is only used to open the packages of meat, as it seems useless for every other task & im not going to ever cut towards my thumb with the blade in grandma style!

Yep…. I was just chopping carrots and spuds with the fresh blade…. It’s so much better than my old blade, I need to spend a bit of time on effort improving my old bigger cooks knife I thinks!

They are such good knives and there is plenty of substance behind the hype

I got a HORL sharpener, really brings them back to than scary new feeling - tried many sharpeners over the years & this one has made the biggest difference & is easy.

They always have good deals; bought my Scanpan set and a few extra saucepans and chef pans from them, fantastic company to buy from.

    Thanks Ben!

I've just ordered the Hiro seven piece knife block set at £359 which I don't need, but I've never seen it that low before.

I bought the same set from them (albeit with a slightly different block) last year. Can’t go wrong.

Good stuff…. Having looked around a little, I’d not seen prices as keen…enjoy the knives!

Makes sense, can’t slum it in VN if used to some good knives.

At that price was half tempted to get some back ups!

I hear Global are great from many whose view I’d trust… shame they’re just so aesthetically unappealing.

Arse backwards. I have my set here in VN. Lilly complained that she had to slum it when she was back in the UK, hence the purchase, and hence the "I don't need"

Strange, I’ve always loved the design, especially the dimpled handles. Am sure they had some award for it back in the day.

Am I completely out of touch or is that a very good price? And the bloc may not be as hideous from the other side (won’t make grabbing the knives easy but it doesn’t claim to be Bauhaus either…

    An amazing price.

As Tony says, bloody ugly. I’d get a magnet and dispose of that block as soon as it arrived.

Pondering trying Global for the first time, does anyone find a big difference between the forged and stamped versions? I understand G and GS are stamped so lighter, GF and GFS forged so heavier).

My smaller peeling knives are GSF, and like the weight. I was lucky when buying mine that I got the chance to try both forged and stamped as was working with a lot of chefs.

Much prefer the stamped weight in my hand for my larger knives, they don’t get the workout that a commercial knife would have (although many chefs tend to have cheaper plastic handle blades they don’t really care about losing!)

I don’t tend to cleave through that many bones, but have an old trusty schema knife for that, one that I won’t get upset if it gets damaged.

For everyone with these knives, can whole-heartedly recommend the HORL sharpening system. I’ve used whetstones, ceramic water wheels and this is by far the best, I have the 2 wheel in walnut and a strop, not yet ventured to the 2 finer discs but see they also released an ultra fine one, and a £299 box to store it all in.

Yup, a bit excessive, but where is the fun in being a conformist.

Ditto, although my set also contains G and GS types. I think they're all fine in real life use.

Knives have been delivered to our daughters house in the UK. She's claimed them already, so off to get another set now.

A bit of a cop out really, Matt. Her birthday is coming up so I figured if she has those then at least I know what we've spent on her, as opposed to Mrs K stealthly buying her god knows what.

    I like a win/win.

The same set I have reordered now comes with a free pair of Sabatier scissors.

I finally got around to ordering this set. The block is indeed ugly and takes a lot of space. I got this block as a cheap and cheerful alternative. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07...b_b_prod_image I’m quite pleased with it.

You either love the knives or are a hater - let me know if you don't get on and will buy them off you along with your LV at retail to soothe your pain lol.

I’ve got some global knives already but the block is half empty but the bread knife and bargain comments tipped me over the edge. Looking forward to having only global knives in the block once they come then still only using the same two

Will look much nicer all matching.

Came today and I have never seen anything uglier in my life. It’s brutal but also matches. It’s either going to the loft of the recycle centre.

Fair bit of overlap with the existing global knives but worth it for the price.

I simply got the HORL2 basic kit. Comes with 2 discs and the cylinder . It sharpens 15 degree and 20 degree blades so good for European and Japanese knives. £150 is a fair amount but takes the messing about with steels and sharpening stones and other family members can use it as opposed to killing the knives with incorrect use of my steel.

I’ve had mine a while now, just the standard set with a leather strip and it is by far the best and easiest thing I’ve used for sharpening.

I’m toying with the extra fine grits and seen they have also released an ultra fine one and then a £300 box to store it all in lol.

There are quicker things out there but for me I’m over the moon with the sharpening these give once you’ve done the first 15/20 (or is it 25 I forget as mine are all 15) grind - the felt tip is a brilliant way of knowing then you’re there.

It is certainly not winning a beauty contest is it, wonder what Friday hungover design signing off that was!

Given the kei cars etc you’d think the whole block design would be to take up a minimal footprint vs LOOK AT HOW BIG I AM!

Gave it to the MIL an hour ago, she thinks she’s going to sell it at the Marie Curie charity sale. Not a chance but it’s out of my house now, all that matters.

I've been tempted to buy this set ^^ but can't deny the idea of receiving that block isn't a positive!
