    tweezers recommendations

    hello,
having got a splinter at work I have found my tweezers somewhat lacking in its removal.
They have either got bent easily or just dont come together well.

Thought knippex would be a good start since their tools are good but seen some bad reviews on quality.

    any suggestions welcome

    thanks martin

I used to keep a fine scalpel to hand when at work for splinters.
You gotta open up the entry hole a little first, push back against the grain to expose the splinter top then move on in with the tweezers.
Spend a good few quid for super fine tipped ones, they work a treat.

Assuming your tweezers are small enough, with fine points, they just need re-aligning and truing up. Maybe what you really need is a better magnifier to see what you're doing? I have some very fine tweezers for watch work that are excellent for removing splinters from fingers, but strong magnification is a must to see what you're doing.

Failing with tweezers, get some Magnesium Sulfate paste from your chemist, it draws the splinter to the surface.

I use some watchmakers tweezers along with a loupe.

Once you can get in really close and see everything magnified it's a doddle to remove splinters.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I understand where you are coming from but i have a magnified lighted lamp so i dont think its that more likely poor quality tweezers.

My Dad used to operate on us children with a sewing needle. As earlier said, it was to open up the entry hole and ease the splinter out. It did hurt but never more than getting the splinter in the first place.

    I'll second Tweezerman. Great things.

If the tip of the splinter is visible you might consider sucking it out with a syringe

hmm do you need to be in contact with the splinter?
It hurts like hell when i use my finger but trying with tweezers to snag the sides is not hurting.

Also try bathing in warm Epsom Salt (magnesium sulphate) solution which can relieve any inflammation and pump out the splinter. Boots sell Epsom salt; magnesium sulphate ointment is also available which can be used as a poultice dressing to 'draw out' the splinter

Another vote for magnesium sulphate paste from the chemist. Especially if it’s still in there, ouch.

Hadn't heard of them, but it turns out they're three minutes up the road from me.

I'll try their nail clippers, have always found it difficult to find a good one. Cheers!
