Anyone like an AVRO Vulcan ??

Brilliant early 60's doc on TPTV just now. They have a catch up sort of thing on the Web. Heart soaring stuff, for me, anyways.

    Talking Pictures TV.
They show lots of good films/progs from the past (and some not so good it must be said!)

Saw HX588 fly over Eastbourne at the air show in 2012. Wonderful- it came in from the West, over Beachyhead. Such a sound!

    Working on a video...

Saw the show on TPTV - excellent. Part of the Baim collection they have recently been showing.

I remember seeing (and hearing) Vulcans at close range as a lad at the RAF Biggin Hill air shows near to us.

    Unforgettable.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

It flew over our house on one of its last flights, my wife was shocked at its beauty, still mentions it now and again.

Anyone like an AVRO Vulcan ??

In early to mid-60s I lived around 3 miles from Woodford where they were built. Faint memories of them flying over and the Woodford air show. Wonder what’s there now, housing?

    Mine:

    Allegedly:

Anybody have a Dinky Vulcan squirrelled away in their loft?

Yep some housing but also the Avro Heritage Museum. I lived about three miles away in the early 70’s and used to watch the air show every year. Many memories of Vulcan, Concorde, Lightning etc.

I must say I prefer Vulcans in the old 'Anti-flash' reflective white livery to the later low-level camouflage. I vaguely remember seeing them (and Victors and Valiants) at RAF Battle of Britain air shows in the early 1960's (when my late father was still in the RAF).

I quite like them, I have this model.

    Enjoyed that.

Was hoping to see my late uncle (long serving Vulcan pilot and instructor) but alas no.

I was that close to being the licensed engineer on this bad bird it wasn’t funny.

The Vulcan or a dirigible on the f1 circuit.

Luckily the family pointed me in the right direction

I organised motorbike bike meets at Wellesbourne airfield cafe, part of the draw was to see the Vulcan.

It was this one taxied of the runway,on Saturdays you can often have a closer look.

I went around for a shuftie one day when the place was deserted,I intend to go back on a Saturday sometime.

It was easy to watch the film on my TV using my Ipad,I sent the link to a friend.

His dad was a aircrewman on Vulcans.

Love the Vulcan, fantastic. Thanks for program heads up, I watched it earlier and it was great.
Felt like Mr Cholmondley-Warner and Grayson were doing the narrative but still excellent 👍

Here's another Vulcan documentary that's worth a look. Ignore the production date (2006) - it mostly comprises footage from the 1950's and 60's. Very little camouflage - nearly all Anti-flash white !

    ...video...
Thanks for that. I haven't got past the first five minutes as yet...I was diverted by the Avro 707 (which was in my Observer's Book of Aircraft) and its test pilot (in jacket and tie), Roland ‘Roly’ Falk. As this is a watch forum, this link may be of interest...the watch of Wg Cdr Falk...the story of a battered Breitling and the Vulcan bomber barrel roll.
