    Thurrock lakeside

I just got dragged around Lakeside, not been here for over a year, Emson Haig, Watchfinder, Ernest Jones all gone, is it getting that tough out there? .

Watchfinder was slightly hidden down the old boardwalk so guess no trade. Think the one by what used to be Debenhams Emson Haig I think, had an issue on rent, and the fact they’re redesigning that end - becoming M&S may have pushed them. Goldsmith have a new store, with Rolex, Breitling also and Tag. Guess just a monopoly of WoS stores.

Emson Haig became Rolex ADs and opened a ‘flagship’ store near the OP’s neck of the woods in Colchester. They then lost some key staff members and Lakeside struggled thereafter. Ernest Jones were doomed as soon as the Breitling and TAG boutiques opened, with all watch brands they offered available elsewhere in ‘blingier’ shops. They finally gave up a few weeks ago. Watchfinder disappeared when LVMH bought them, not that I ever saw anybody in there when I was unfortunate enough to need to venture over there (I live a 10 minute walk from Lakeside - which is all you can do around Christmas with the traffic issues)
Shops disappearing is a sign of the times at Lakeside given ridiculous rental costs and rates.
