    AD Call

Just listened to a message on my answer phone offering me a Rolex 126613LB approximately 12 months earlier than initially expected.

Putting my sensible head on the only way I’d want to fund it is by an equal amount of outgoings from the watch box.

    To fund this one

I’d look to move on these 3

That would hypothetically balance the books.

I think my mind is already made up but wondered what others would do in this situation.

I'm not a fan of the Rolex so would keep the three you have.

It would be a yes from me.

Bling bling! I’d keep the three you have.

I have the LN, and absolutely love it. Can’t make your decision for you, though.

I’m not keen on two tone but I’d swap those three for that.

Under normal circumstances I would go ahead but I'd be concerned about problems associated with the 32xx movements. I went for a 116710LN recently in part because of apparent issues with the new 32xx movements.

I had a blue two tone sub many years ago and loved it i ended up trading it for a solid gold and it was a big mistake
The two tone blue is a lovely watch
Could you not dig deep and keep the panerai that would be a lovely pair of watches

As I scrolled down the three you're planning to swap for the Rolex I was like:
    "Yes."
    "Yes."
"WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING MAN?"

So that's my position on it! The PAM is gorgeous - far superior in aesthetics to the Rolex and not ubiquitous in design.
But you've made up your mind and, assuming it's to go with the Rolex, I WISH I had the cash for your PAM!

I thought two tones were always available? Personally I would stick with what you have. You do realise that they are all in the back room don't you? There is no shortage of any model, it's just a silly game they are playing.

I would go for it !

It would be a no from me. You've got variety there (though maybe switch one out for non-white dial!) and they're substantially more interesting watches to me than that two tone Sub.

I`m a fan of bimetal watches, I have a few, but the blue-dialled Rolex sub just doesn`t work for me. The black-dial is nicer, but the polished centre links make the watch far too blingy, brushed centre links would work a whole lot better. Omega did this to good effect with the pre-Bond bimetal Seamaster, gold-capped brushed centre links look more subtle on a diver.

If you like it, go for it, I almost bought a second-hand 16613 LN years ago when prices were sensible, but it's not something that would interest me nowadays. Getting rid of 3 watches you like for one you might like a little more (perhaps) is never a good strategy in my opinion.

Would you feel comfortable walking around with that much money on your wrist?.........I wouldn't.

    Yes from me
The Sub is a lovely watch
Had one but sold it to fund something else but it's a nice watch.

I would do the swap - but keep the Pam if you can and top up with cash?

Love the blue on that version of the Sub.

Not a three swap I would do but if you really like the two tone sub I'd find a way to keep the PAM.

Depends if you’re in the mood to consolidate!

But for me, I personally would.

I have the black 40mm two tone and the current blue 41mm love my bluesy so it would be a yes from me; but only you can decide if you want it enough.

Consolidation is tempting, but will you get the same wear from it as it is a high profile watch.

I love the blue 2 tone. I got the black 2 tone last year from AD but only worn it twice. Find it’s to much of an occasion watch

How much are you wearing the other three and how much would you wear the Rolex?

FWIW I think the Bluesey is one of the all-time great pieces of wristwatch jewellery, but I still wouldn't do the trade.

Generally im always for consolidating as from personal experience it gives me increased satisfaction from a wearing perspective but also a collection perspective. The only thing I would watch out for would be that the Rolex is at the end of the day, an iconic watch. It will attract more attention, depending on your lifestyle, that could be a good thing or bad thing.

Wow it looks like the Bluesy divides opinion. In my head at the moment I’m thinking the 3 I’ve got I’ll keep. I get the comment about replacing one of them with another colour and to be honest before the Rolex appeared on the scene I was just waiting for the 75th anniversary summer blue Seamaster to come in and replace the white one.

I'd be keeping those three if it were me but guess it would depend on what else you have.

For yourself, what was the original plan, consolidate to buy the Rolex or add it to your current collection?
If you really want it, buy it while you have the chance and see how it fits with your current collection and worry about 'balancing' the books later, you could always sell the Rolex on and be back to square one

not a bad quandary to have, keep us posted

Keep the three. I'm not a fan of Rolex as a rule but I do like the dial and bezel on that one. The bimetal bracelet with polished centre on the other hand is very off putting.

    +1

I recently passed on a rose gold GMT for this very reason. My BLRO is back with Rolex for a 32xx warranty fix.

if you like the Rolex (which we assume you did to have expressed interest in it) then make the change. You'll rarely if ever miss what you're swapping in my experience.

Based on recent Omega pricing news it might cost as much as the Rolex.

I love the bluesy. I saw a colleague with one recently and it is fabulous. I love the 3 watches you have though too and would probably stick.

Personally think you should only part with watches you no longer like / expect to wear, unless selling is a financial necessity. Getting rid of watches you like and expect to wear in favour of others you expect to like more is risky, more so if you are trading multiple watches for one.

The bluesy is gorgeous and I always wanted one, but life is getting ever-more casual on the clothing front, and I feel it's too blingy for what I usually wear. Your current three on the other hand work perfectly from scruffs to smart.

Not a fan of the 2T myself but the sub is a great watch. If I bought it I would probably put it on rubber b.

    I wouldn't swap those 3 for it.

I wouldn’t do the swap either, the watches you already have are much more interesting imo and I’m not keen on two tone watches.

That said, I don’t think I would buy any new Roles whilst the 32xx movement issues pertain. It doesn’t look as if Rolex have figured out a permanent fix yet.

Such a tough choice. I have the older 116613 LB myself and I love it, however I lust for all three of the watches you're thinking of putting on the block. If I were you I would think of a way to keep that PAM though.

If I weren't keeping some money aside for a hopeful 124060 at RRP I'd have been scouring SC for the results of your decision!

In all seriousness, I used to think the Bluesy was a bit loud - but once used to it I prefer it over the LN. Good luck with your choice either way.

  43. #43
I am sure you want the current model but I bought a mint 5 digit one from Hackett Watches for £7500 a few months ago. Sure prices have dropped further. Nearly scratches the same itch and allows you to hold onto at least one of these?

What model is that PAM by the way? Wife away for the weekend, surfing the internet and having unnatural thoughts about Panerai (despite losing my shirt on the last PAM I grew bored with)

Thank you. Luckily for my savings it's not a 42mm or I'd have been facing divorce right now.

I don't blame you. A very tough choice. Nice to be given the option at least though - hopefully proof that availability is slowly creeping up.
