    Matte Dial

Looking for some info on this particular dial.
Struggling to find same on tinternet. I can find similar early 70's Matte dials and similar glossy dial lay outs but nothing exactly the same, from the period
This dial is mounted (and always has been from new) in a 6 mill Seadweller case which dates it to c'79
These dials were obviously produced to transition from the earlier 610m dials, however I just can't find exactly the same.

When did the triple6 matte dials start?
Quick read on DRSD.com says triple 6 started from 5.9 million and there is a mk1 and mk2 dial. This one would be mk2-guessing a bit
Supposedly date wheel went from silver(I've got that on my 1665) to white on triple 6.

    Hi Hood,
thx for that and I have read up on that detail from DRSD, however the detail which is troubling me are a couple of subtle differences like the missing hyphen and the slightly different lay out of the minute markers at six.

Shouldn't that be an open six on the date wheel? (Sorry for my ignorance). Martyn

This was my 16660 with gloss dial

    Closed 6 on 26

That’s the same watch with open 6

Thanks for all the responses thus far.

Something that I forgot to include in my original post was that this dial is fitted into a 1665 case and has been since bought by its only owner from new, in the early eighties.

Provenance is sound, and that I can vouch for, as the owner is one of my old Bell Diving partners. So I recall him using this watch for its intentended purpose.
I never realised back then, as to us types, these are/were just watches that told us the date and time when locked away for 28 days or more.

    The research continues......
    Thx again!

I'd post it on the Vintage Rolex Forum
The guy Xeramic(I think that's his name) is a real authority on the vintage stuff and generally chimes in after a bit.
