A big article in a Dutch newspaper about the storm Babet and the evacuation of people living in small villages and towns. @ Scottish readers here: the storm is incoming from the East/S.East. How often do you have an eastern storm?

Jim
Might have to pop a jumper on when cranking up the Ooni this weekend then.
We had it on the west coast in Argyll from the last storm a couple of weeks ago. Not seen rain like it for years. Landslides all over the place. Oban was cut off completely from north and south. Had to wring out my socks a couple of times.
Keep safe everyone north of the border, hoping there is not a lot of damage
We had "The beast from the east" a few (3?) years ago and there were one hell of a lot of trees lost in the Scottish Borders, but - we survived "Hurricane Bawbag" which would have levelled a lesser population.
Been wet and windy here all day until 5pm ish, is this the calm before the real storm? Glad we’re at the top of a hill in our city.

The Scottish invented rain and wind, they will be fine
I'm at work in Fraserburgh and we have been absolutely battered in the last 24 hours and its still ongoing, should start to ease off about 16:00hrs.
We've seen 16m seas and 72 knot winds on the wind farm
52mph wind forecast. Looks kinda scary
Horizontal rain all night, a few trees down, but it’s Friday, still planning walking down to the pub for lunch. Postie has just been, poor lassie, a bit wet and windswept.
Beast from the east was about 6 years ago, spent 3 days clearing snow off the garage forecourt, no customers but the place looked good.
How far into the sea is that wind farm?
Well that was a day.
Set off from Teesside at 8.30 to drive to Chesterfield to collect a new car. Got within 2 miles of the dealership but couldn't get any closer due to road closures. The dealer called me to say they were closing due to flooding. That was 1.30pm.
Set off for home but got stuck at almost every turn. Eventually due to my wife's Google map skills, we got back at 7.00pm. But we had to negotiate some pretty deep flooding that saw other cars turn around and in some places it was too deep for comfort.
I'm trading in a Land Rover Discovery Sport as its reputation for reliability is questionable as it gets older. But the car I would have bought is a regular hatchback. Had we managed to do the exchange there would be no way we would have got home through the flooding and would have needed to find a hotel. Perhaps someone is trying to tell me something.

In hindsight I agree. Lesson learned.

What always strikes me is the number of semi-submerged cars outside houses.
Why aren't they moved to higher ground before the storm or owners are looking to an insurance payout?
Thanks for that.
Amusingly our postie was wearing shorts as usual - she is a hardy lass
Even me, a complete bell end knows how to drive through a flood. Slow and steady and don’t create a bow wave.
Amazing the amount of greater fcuktards in the world than me.

According to Dutch media channels: 4 people were killed by the storm. One of them in North Germany.
