I visited more often pre-Covid, I've only been once since - I now get them delivered instead (got another last night).

I never found Omar Khayyam that bad tbh, but yeah it' behind Khukuri or Ignite for me too - the fact it's been there since '83 is impressive. The owner has an amazing memory - he remembered that my Dad lives in Switzerland despite having only met him once 15 years earlier!

A fabulous restaurant and, almost as good, a nationwide delivery service.

Everything is a touch on the warm side, but completely delicious. I strongly recommend it. Particularly the goat.

My dad still bangs on about Omar Khayyam serving up massive nan breads - though he probably last ate there in the 80s. May have been a bit of an institution but disappointing whenever I've eaten there.

[QUOTE=MattMM;6283792]For anyone in Southside of Glasgow, can highly recommend the Turban Tandoori at Giffnock station:

I would second that, plus the other “New” Turban at Eastwood Toll. I think it’s the same owners.

This is brilliant, I've earmarked a few to visit and it would be great to keep it going as a resource.

In Dunfermline, Everest Nepalese is excellent, and award winning.

I've been told Dastaan in West Ewell is fantastic too but not made it there yet.

Thanks for the reccomendation, I've driven past Kayal lots of times but never considered it That's why this forum is so good, everyone willing to offer opinion ans help

I'm going to give it a try next weekend

Was surprised to see this appear, food is good but the new venue is so noisy as all hard surfaces, we found it hard to have a good conversation. The older, smaller place was better for us.

I do think their delivery prices are a little high for what is effectively reheated curry once you cook it yourself & my inner cynic wonders how much is cooked offsite in a dark kitchen and reheated even for the restaurant.

On a Thai version of that accusation, Giggling Squid, I’m looking at you!

What I do love is that it’s not just chicken, lamb or prawn though & a goat curry is always special, one of my favourite proteins when cooked well curry wise.

I clearly seem to travel for a curry, so might need to try the on mentioned in Windsor for the next night out.

If in the City of London ‘The India’ under Cannon Street station is rather good.
However across the road is Brigadiers which is excellent. (On the ground floor of the Bloomberg building)

Yep, delicious food that reminds me of my late Mum’s cooking - pricey mind.

Not only is Andeep passionate about his food, he also builds a fine chopper.

Exquisite food, terrific staff and a great ambience.

Another decent one is Laguna - just along the road. Never quite clicked with Montys - but may give it another try soon!
This takes me back. I lived on The Common and went to these places regularly a decade ago. The crispy Bindi from Monty's was super.

When I wanted a great curry, I got the bus to Madhu's. That place was out of this world. Still got a discount card somewhere. I've just seen they've opened a place in Mayfair which I going to book right now.

Went to Madhu's at the Grove last sunday. Besides the starters being too small, the food was great.

Last time I was in London I went to Masala zone in Earls Court, and it was very good. They recommended I had a Thalis and whilst being a little small for my normal meal size it was outstanding.

Locally we have no great options, a few decent ones, Akbars use to very good in York but not have been there in years.

Bombay cottage in Hamilton, just down from the race course. South Indian chilli chicken is my go to. Nan breads are massive and would feed 4.

Bit far away, but the menu looks good. Interesting use of Goanese vs the more usual Goan. Love to see a photo of the naan next time you visit!

The Clay Oven, that takes me back. I used to go there when I lived in Northfields for a bit years ago.

Vadah in Stockton is excellent and has just been recognised in the national curry awards.
    http://www.vadah.co.uk/

Aagrah in Shipley if I'm visiting the in-laws.
    https://www.aagrah.com/find-a-restaurant/shipley/

I saw someone mention Akbars in Middlesbrough, excellent when it first opened but it's just reheated food sent up from Bradford now and certainly not as good as it was.

Not local but if you like curry then Aktar at Home is well worth it, better than any takeaway I've had...

We have quite a few really good curry houses in Southampton and my favourite, Jehangir, happens to be the closest.

My favourite in the area. This one is in Wokingham, Koush the owner is a brilliant host & the food is amazing.

We are there fortnightly (or weekly if being bad!), and he brings us samples of the staff curry for the evening to try. He’s so passionate about the accompaniments for the popadoms as they make their own tamarind sauce & coriander coconut powder alongside the usual mint sauce, onions and chutney.

Damn, wish I was going there tonight.

Edit - online menu is shocking as it’s line by line by curry type by meat vs the way it is done in the restaurant itself.
This takes me back to my time living in Wokingham and Sindlesham. I used to love going to Tamarind Tree and you are right Koush is a legend, he always understood service and how to make people feel special.

Yeah, he’s great. Back there earlier this evening & the staff curry tonight was great, rather spicy for my wife but amazing flavour wise. Chicken was roasted before the curry was made and the depth of flavour was clearly there.

Will book next time, so I can order a few portions of staff curry in advance; can’t order their evening meal and eat it in-front of them without prior warning to cook some more up.

Been quiet there the last few weeks, but this was probably 70% capacity around 6.30 which is great to see.

Not tried that, but have been to the Coriander Lounge for works do's and found that pretty good.

My favourite local is the Paradise Tandoori in Petersfield

    Firstly, thank you for remembering.

Secondly, dear god that thing is enormous, far too much for a single person to consume - especially with the scale of the other main dishes around it!

Thirdly, you taken Sporty Spice out for a curry? lol

We made a mistake in one visit to a curry house where they hadn't mentioned a portion of onion bhaji was 4 tennis ball sized ones - we all ordered it as a side with the main meal, 4 people, 16 of the buggers - a whole pile arrived. Still the best I have ever had, properly crisps balls of onion vs the flat ones that don't quite float my boat the same way.
