RIP- Growing up in the 70s/80s its all my old man used to listen to, still think i know most the lyrics for most of his songs now.
I must admit I didn't know he was still alive.
He was often on the telly when I was a kid. A few weeks ago I remembered his hit record from the late '60s because I was in (old) Durham Town myself at the time; I looked him up on Wikipedia on my phone in the bar of the hotel and worked out that he'd have been 36 when it was in the charts. I thought he was more or less an old man.
Always had a soft spot for that song as a County Durham boy myself. Although (I've just read) Roger was from Nairobi himself.

Sad news, loved his voice. Like mono I would have thought he'd passed some time ago.
Like most I thought he died years ago.
Sad news - great voice and a superb whistler.
Grew up with his songs, never would have thought he was still alive. 87 years, nice number of you can get it.
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
As others have said; didn't know he was alive until he died. Growing up, he always seemed to be on Saturday night telly, regardless of the programme.
Great voice and perfect whistling. RIP.
