Thread: Omega September Price Increase

    Omega September Price Increase

Received an email today from an AD mentioning Omega price increase on average 2.3% across all their models from September 11th.

Makes that Sapphire Sandwich Speedy even more unobtainable again.

That's going to make this (current RRP of £8,700) even less desirable. Pity.

    Yep I hear ya,

The Speedy Sapphire Sandwich 3861 will be looking at £7,500+
    Green Seamaster at £5,300+

    Both on my wish list

The list price might well go up, but I wonder what level of discounts will be needed to shift all the stock. Sure, the most desirable models will be snapped up even at increased prices, but there's an awful lot of slow movers in the Omega range and the secondhand prices show that they're back to being heavy depreciators

Swatch Group got a third of its sales and about 60 percent of its operating profit from Omega in 2022, according to Morgan Stanley estimates.

    Source: Business of Fashion

    Same article also states that:

“The Swiss company said on Wednesday that its sales in the first half of 2019 were held back by cracking down on so-called “grey market” dealers, who sell stock at a discount.”

I assume this so why we saw the end of the 25% off an Omega from greys.

Sure, and when there's really strong demand you can set what price levels you like. Not really what's happening in the High Street right now though; I'm reasonably sure that we'll see discounting back in the coming months.

Hope so. These rises are making me rethink my answer to “[insert quotation mark] the call” [endquote].

A discount to what though? How many price increases have there been over the past 2 years say? Seems like a good strategy to me, bump up the prices so they seem OTT then offer discounts that are pretty much nothing more than retail price from a year or so ago.

They only mentioned Tudor to me as it was a follow up to my interest in the Alinghi Pelagos Chrono (which is cooling) to advise the new RRP from 1st Sept.

It has been mentioned that Rolex are also going up 2% on TRF but I guess we will find out soon enough.

2% is far lower than inflation though. OK I know, the price increases happen two or three times a year but with UK inflation at 6.8, down from 7.8 last month, I'm surprised the watch price increases aren't far higher than 2% I'm not defending them, just saying I'm surprised it's not more.

    That’s not how inflation works.

Think of a balloon, inflation increases, deflation decreases. Inflation by 0.01% is still an increase.

No Robert, not unless we got to deflation would prices be falling. Lower inflation means slower rising prices.

Little birds lead me to believe there is NO price rise for Rolex watches on 1st September 2023.

    That's a popular misconception.

When will Omega sort their Service Centres out? When will their turnaround times improve?
I don't fancy paying Rolex prices for an Omega but without the service.

2.5% I was told Today on the 12th!

I agree. I contacted the Omega Service Centre direct to find out about a service on my 8500 Planet Ocean. i was told at least a 40 week backlog! Thats about 9 months. It has gone off to Genesis thanks to a tip off from on here. The estimate was about a fortnight, provided any parts required were available. Even if it is a couple of months it is a huge improvement on Omega's timing.

Looks like there’s a £100 increase on the Seamaster 300M & Planet Ocean. Moonwatch starts at £6600 (on bracelet).

I really want a Speedmaster again and want the sapphire and new bracelet clasp.

But the prices are absolutely mental now, I can’t force myself to pay the rrp.
