I was 16 in 1982, what a year that was.

My song of that year will forever remain:

Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.

I was 16 in 1982, what a period in my life...

Was introduced to The Alan Parsons Project by the brother of a friend, Eye in the Sky had just been released, this started my lifelong love of this group and their music.

I was 16 and had been a Joy Division fan from when I first heard them on Peel in 1979 ... this remains one of JD/NO's finest moments

I was at sea on board a supertanker. Also that year spent my first few months in Japan as the ship had to go into dry dock. This led to me changing my life around and spending a lot of time there. Listened to a lot of Lou Reed.

Stuck back in Blighty in a MoD finance office ensuring contracts got their money for everything supplied and the volume of purchasing went through the roof during that short period of military activity.

Away from that, saw The Who at the NEC Brum.

Funnily enough one of my earliest memories was of attending the victory parade in London. I was not quite four years old.

Twelve years old, first term at a boarding school, mainly for forces kids, watched the Falkland war unfold avidly as a lot of the kids there had dads on the ground. The school was ran by a complete bastard headmaster, Google Derek Slade St George’s School.
    Cheers..

    Where were you in 1982?

Started university in Leeds; at the end of the first week I went to see AC/DC at The Queens Hall.

Ba in black, it was the first tour with Brian Johnston after Bon Scott’s death.

I just looked at the hits that year and there are so many good records (who said the '80's were shite for music?)! I'll pick this one as errr, it had quite an impact on a 12 year old boy:

A lot of youngsters on here

I had my 21st birthday on the day England played France in the World Cup and scored after 15 secs or whatever. No one would come round or go to the pub until the match had finished. 16th June if anyone remembers.

I was an Assistant Manager of a large shoe shop (Saxone, Lily & Skinner). Me (the only male) and nine girls/women. It was an 'interesting' time.

First quarter century reached, had moved up to Stamford Lincs managing a branch of a building society, had a variety of cars but was then probably driving a Mk1 VW Scirocco, saw Neil Young at Wembley Arena.

In Crosskeys College, sixth form between school and starting my apprenticeship in 1983.
Spent Monday and Wednesday evenings at a pub called The Greyhound (known affectionately as "The Dog") in Pontllanfraith watching live rock bands and being drunk on two pints of Tennants. Friday nights in Blackwood Bier Kellar, and Saturdays at The Camelot in Caerphilly.
The Greyhound is now a vetinary practice. Quite apt.

Stamford is a lovely town. I spent either 4 or 6 weeks (can't remember which now) there doing my Harrier Q course at RAF Wittering in 2003. Stayed in The Dolphin Guest House opposite a great pub of the same name.

Besides failing to reach my potential at school, I saw AC/DC at Hammersmith, went to my first matches at White Hart Lane and Wembley, and lost my innocence (most definitely the least memorable of the stated occasions!)

    Cool

Completed successfully a Joint Honours degree in Astronomy and Physics gaining a 2.1 (missing a 1st class honours as I failed to retake a couple of exams in my first year). It was in the day when you got a grant from the government to go to University (it’s not Uni grrr).

Pink Floyd “The Wall” was my favourite album. I still own the same vinyl. Hitch hikers guide the the galaxy was on the radio - I could quote episodes word perfectly.

Deciding what to do next, before life fell apart autumn of that year The summer of ‘82 was the best ever. Turned 21, both parents alive, I was young and it was all rose tinted.

Same age for me! Although I have a vivid memory of going to see ET at the cinema, being transfixed by American football on C4 when it launched that year and dancing to 'Pass The Dutchie' whilst sipping on my first ever can of coke at the school disco! Halcyon days indeed!

First serious girlfriend - went out for a year, parted company, married 2006!
Rolling Stones at (old) Wembley Stadium June 25th
I was walking over Westminster Bridge from St Thomas' Hospital (trying to sort out accomodation) with an American friend, when I heard what sounded like a bomb. It was. Hyde Park 20th July. We headed briskly toward Charing Cross and the first train out of London...
It was one of the most memorable years of my life

    Where were you in 1982?

Just moved to a new primary school, vaguely remember Captain Marvel Bryan Robson getting injured and then getting knocked out the World Cup in Spain. Also remember the headmaster getting us all in assembly to tell us about the Falkland Wars.

I was 13, at school in Truro. Biggest memories were the Falklands war- because lots of kids had dads down there- and the breakup of The Jam (saw them on their last "official" gig at Cornwall Coliseum).

!982... that was many kilos ago. I got out of the army, went back to the uni and did my Master Special Education Needs and started working at a school for 12-17 y/o kids with behavioral problems. I loved that! I spent all my years teaching on various schools for this type of kids.

On a hot day in August 1982: in front of the altar... with a lady beside me. Not our best decision as we found out later in life. Still, back then we were happy.

Doing my second’’s (marine engineer) steam ticket (certificate of competency) at Hull college during Falklands conflict. Recall a lecturer coming in one afternoon and asking if anybody had sailed on Atlantic Conveyor. One lad had, he had friends onboard - a very sobering moment.

At primary school, I remember following the news of the Falklands war, but that's about it (I turned 11 that year).
