Pretty much a smash and grab but you have to get through anyway you can. The men's team should take lessons from Chloe Kelly on how to take pens as no goalie was ever going to save that one.

Yes it showed true professionalism to keep the ball after going down to ten.
The sort of game management that is needed to win a tournament.

Still a bit unsettled with how well Nigeria were and i am wondering if jamiaca/columbia will be the same physical sort of team that we struggled against.
Interesting to hear the commentary on radio 5 talking about ow we are used to playing european teams but not the rest of the world and so havent come up against thus sort of side much recently.

I wouldn't call it proper stamping, James decided to put her foot on the girl's back/arse and stand on her in an act of petulance born out of frustration.

Definitely deserved the red card, with the ban that'll follow I can`t see her kicking another ball in the tournament. She's let her team down big-style, I`ve got zero sympathy. If you haven`t got the temperament for big games you shouldn't be playing.

I am liking that Chloe Kelly.

Very calm, brave and confident in the build up to that decisive penalty and the strong execution with the funny little prance was brilliant.

    Was disgusting to see.

Are they going to start falling about claiming fouls like the Wendyball male team next? I hope not.

It is more preferable watching football where the pansy players don’t trip over grass every few minutes and try ti get an advantage.

Chloe Kelly’s penalty was hit at 111km/h, with the most powerful Premier League goal last season being 107.2km/h from Saïd Benrahma against Crystal Palace. Not much wonder it flew in. Girl has a good strike on her.

The best performance so far. Glimmers of what was on display during the euros. Much better.

Blimey, it's only 1.30 but I need a beer after that.

What a team they are. Such character and togetherness

Gotto support the English team now, with a bit of Dutch involved ;)

The china game was the best :)

But yes better than the nigeria game were we seemed to handle the physical side quite well.

Russo and hemp had a particularly good game outside their goals.
Nice to see toone have a good game as shes been a bit anonmyous at times up to now.

Such desire to get the result from this group.

The aussie game might be an easier game :)

  16. #66
Another superb performance. Russo is deadly.

    GET IN!
I am absolutely thrilled. What an effort. We rode our luck a bit - a fully fit Kerr scores at least one more - but you have to take your chances.
Spain will not be a foregone conclusion.
They're totally disunited and yet have still reached the final. If you can do that in spite of your tosser coach you're a hard bunch to beat.
We can't take it for granted that the trophy is in the bag but I've every faith Wiegman and co. won't let that happen.

Big dilemma now...Toone or James for the final? Which way do you go?

    I’d go for Toone myself.

Arguely Spain are the better team and should have beaten us in the 1/8s last year.

    But obviously in a final it's 50/50

Yep, sounds like the best solution. But I guess Wiegman knows best ;)

Not sure how accurate that is given Eng won the same competition in 85 and 88

Obviously the Mundialito is not the W World Cup, that didnt exist until the 90s, but David has pointed to Rose R winning the M in 84 as a proxy.

Given Eng won it in 85 and 88, Rose won't be the only/last. Probably the first mind!

No. See the Wiki link above. It predates the FIFA WC and was an invitational mini tournament.

Anyway, the Rose Reilly story well worth a watch while waiting for this year’s final!

Sometimes its good to change it for exceptional opposition players.
But in this final i reckon toone has come good the last couple of games.

Both russo toone and hemp again really leaving it all out on the pitch.
Their never say die attitude has really come through.

A surprise this tournament is that itv actually got a good co-commentator in the chelsea manager Emma Hayes
rather than the ex keeper rachel brown on bbc.

Time to watch the build up on the beeb and have the in game action on ITV.

Well, who'd have thought we'd be here after those couple of shocking openers??

Settled in with an 11am beer to see if they can finish the job. Here's hoping!

As expected. Set up for Fruitella to be on the pitch at the end.

So I guess the lesson learned from Spain's victory and the background behind it is that men know best?

The Spanish played like men, putting themselves in the way to get fouls , rolling around faking injuries and using up as much time as possible.

Outplayed and lost, completely fairly, to the better team. England just didn’t turn up and didn’t deserve anything, slower and second to every ball. Of course, that’s not the narrative as we’re not allowed to criticise them.
