    EBay watches

So due to my earning potential being cut some years ago i stopped buying watches and stopped even looking at them (I know, bloody nightmare :-)
Anyway things are a bit better now (but not Rolex/omega type of better) and lately I have been enjoying wearing my old mechanical Seiko that I have owned for 45ish years which still keeps good time!
So looking at eBay (as you do) I ended up purchasing a Seiko V743-9A20 circa year 2000
I’m very happy and had a nice chat with the vendor afterwards, now what should I look at next hmmm……

It is nice and shows that this hobby doesn’t have to be expensive.

    Great find.

Personally I’d have a look at the cheap Chinese watch thread here:
    https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...s-and-the-like

There are some cracking watches from the like of Steeldive and Seestern which are insanely good value.

If you want Swiss I’d be looking at Tissot and Hamilton or older Maurice Lacroix, Raymond Weil and Edox.

Just stick in your price limit for a generic search like ‘mens automatic watch’ on eBay or Chrono24.

You should have bought that CWC on SC today there's been a lot of good watches on SC at good prices lately.
Why not look on SC instead?

Personally I dont equate price or big name with desirability.

Any number of Eddies watches are more desirable to me.
For example I was wearing one of his old hand winds yesterday, what a joy.

The Squale I bought here at a fair price is also excellent and has history I wouldnt swap it for a Submariner.

No price is definitely not the decider and nor is the name.

Yep ‘SC’ is great and I have bought and sold many a fine watch on there, playing Russian roulette on eBay is not normal for me but at £50 i thought it was worth a punt.

I dont get the fawning over a watch because its a Rolex and its expensive, doesent make it either desirable, good looking or a better watch IMHO.

Have to disagree there. I'm not a Daytona fan in the slightest but the platinum is in a league of its own really.

And to stay on topic, I bloody love a good eBay treasure hunt. It was more fun before everyone thought their watches were worth thousands but I really enjoy scanning for old deco watches.

I’ve been out of buying watches for some years now and can’t believe how much everything has gone up, when I think what I sold my old seiko divers for!

I reckon ebay is still crawling with bargains if you look carefully.
