Just a heads up,
if you ever can enjoy driving North/South to or southern France, Spain etc via the Auvergne, absolutely stunning scenery, and superb roads
(a few cameras....) and not least the Millau Gorge bridge, a masterpiece (Richard Rogers - apparently was was not named being the Architect, when the ribbon was cut ! ! !)
Excellent rooms/cleanliness and superb breakfast, at very keen prices

Driven that route a few times when going to our friends in Murcia it is as you say quite beautiful. We sometimes come back over the Somport pass then up through Bordeaux on to Cann for the return sailing, equally as beautiful. It’s just a pleasure to drive in France and Spain unlike here.

Always seem to pass over it in the dark or in torrential rain.
Plus seemed quite a detour for any sightseeing and imagine canoeing would lose a day - we (family anyway) wanted to reach destination ASAP.
