Well, it’s Newcastle innit. Refs and the PGMOL just back from another all expenses trip to the Saudi league no doubt.

Refs, and particularly Taylor, have a bias against us, not for us.

This. Schar should’ve been booked for simulation - initiating contact and going down like a shot stag. The double roll at the end whilst clutching is ankle wasn't bad either - an 8/10

I dunno. Didn't Mourinho and Conte both top the table (Mourinho as late as December) only to then get sacked before the season was out?! Spurs fans, never learn! ;)

Having seen the penalty awarded to Newcastle yesterday, I now know for a fact that VAR is totally corrupt.

VAR didn’t give it. They just felt they couldn’t overrule it.

Probably because there was an inadvertent contact followed by and a clear exaggeration by Schar which lead to the poor initial decision.

I think the saying is, ‘hoisted by their own petard’.

I hate it when Almiron and Gordon go down rolling around but my sons tell me off for moaning. “It’s all part of the game and everyone does it.”

Until the FA & UEFA grows some balls and starts booking for over exaggeration, even if there is a foul, then it will continue.

VAR isn’t the problem, it’s weakness of referees and the very high stakes they all play for.

    Soft but right call.

City’s best performance of the season so far but United again lacking fight when they’re behind. Why Bruno is captain is beyond me. He’s a whiny so and so when things aren’t going their way, hardly the type of captain you want.

Some brilliant saves by Ederson and Onana.

The petulant kicking out by Anthony and Fernandes was embarrassing. There’s something disturbing in Anthony’s behaviour and mannerisms that makes me think he’ll turn out to be a liability. Nothing from Rashford or Fernandes out on the left and right to try and stem City’s attacks.

United has scored 11 goals. Spurs, Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Villa, Brighton, Newcastle all more than double.

    It was horrible.

Mystified at what Mike Dean said. It was a penalty because the pull by Hojlund prevented Rodri from getting to where the ball was probably going to be. No, me either!

    Premier League 2023-24

As others have already covered the deficiencies at Man U, there needs to be mention of other Man City players.

Notably, Bernado Silva was everywhere today & deservedly won the Man of the Match award.

A toss up between him and Grealish (particularly 1st half) I thought. Grealish looked like the player of last season and was a constant menace on the left.

Grealish was excellent today and Silva just pipped MOTM for me. I felt City went easy on them today, never really got out of third gear. We could do with today’s Man Utd turning up on Wednesday night.

They did and it was a massive three points. I really fear for them especially if rumours of a points deduction turn out to be true.

There’s definitely three worse teams than Everton this year. There’s no way they’ll get a points deduction with 115 charges still hanging over Man City.

I think Everton will be ok this year, the three sides that come up are terrible and Bournemouth are really poor.

Another boringly routine home win (12 in a row now) for Villa to cement us firmly in the top 5, with Forest and Fulham up next. Looking forward to the end of Nov/start of December when we play Spurs, Man City and Arsenal in quick succession. That'll give us a good indication if we can stick it out, which I'm starting to believe we can.

I said this before the season started and as a Coventry fan that just missed out on promotion and would no doubt be at the bottom had we gone up. The whole distribution of football finances is a joke, nothing like an equitable amount of money filtering down into lower divisions. It makes it very difficult for a side being promoted for the first time to compete and then compensates that by making a team that has a weak showing in the prem and is relegated have a huge financial advantage in future years.

The whole thing needs a reset, or just remains a self-perpetuating process of yo-yo teams and also rewarding clubs that are poorly run, produce dull football but retain a position at the big table due to an archaic prize money allocation.

I was surprised to see Man City win Team of the Year at the Ballon D'Or ceremony but I guess most of the votes were already cast before Arsenal won the Charity Shield on penalties.

Declan Rice not winning the Ballon dOr is the criminal act for me . Since he signed , he’s led Arsenal to a clean sweep of every trophy they’ve entered .
What has Messi done in the McDonalds League ?

The predictable Messi win is ridiculous and based on just seven games played in the World Cup.

Sacked in the morning, you’re getting sacked in the morning 🤣🤣

Literally a combination of our second string and youth team.

I really don't get why Arsenal and Utd played weakened teams, it is the one trophy we could actually win, Arsenal have a slim chance at the PL, very very slim, no chance at all at the CL. I know the carabao cup isnt a big deal, but it is still a cup final day out for the fans and a trophy.

I think your team a disservice. I have to admit that I did not think Arsenal would have as good a chance of winning the league this year as they did last.

However watching them this season if City have a wobble, unlikely as that may be, Arsenal should be in a better mental space than they were last year.

With that in mind if Arteta chooses to concentrate on the league it can be understood on some level.

For me the juggernaut that is Man City is neigh on impossible to stop, such is their depth coupled with a fantastic manager, but can’t fault Arteta for believing he has a chance with this Arsenal team and the lessons learned from last season.
