There's been dozens of eye witness accounts, and decades of research; it is known pretty much precisely what happened and has been for some time. But that's the BBC for you.
Saw an article somewhere recently where Bob Ballard actually admitted that they found the Titanic whilst searching for a Russian Submarine and originally they weren’t going to tell anyone!
Instead sensible heads prevailed and the whole ‘Discovery’ story was created and the World was stunned with the images when announced!
I learned of it from a newspaper passed to me on a late night train back to London from Windsor by the ‘comic’ Jimmy Cricket
