Thanks for the heads-up. £17 from Amazon UK with free delivery. I just ordered a copy; couldn't be bothered waiting for the fakes to appear.
I came across a review of the recently released book "Hands of Time: A Watchmaker's History" Rebecca Struthers of Struthers Watchmakers in Birmingham (www.strutherswatchmakers.co.uk). Ordered it on Friday and finished reading it this morning.
I would describe the book as a blend of autobiography and horological history, Mrs Struthers weaves her personal journey and passion for timepieces into an engaging mix of anecdotes and facts. With her husband Craig's illustrations, she takes readers on a journey through the evolution of timekeeping devices - from ancient Egyptian water clocks to the Apple watch. The book explores the role of engineers, artisans, forgers (!) and historical figures in shaping the watches' development, illustrating how these innovations have influenced our relationship with time and played a part in major historical events.
Highly recommended.

Just noticed that the author also featured in Radio 4's "Four Thought" last summer (about 30min long), also interesting.

The Struthers have followed a pretty impressive trajectory themselves - from small-scale repairers and restorers, to designing their own watches and movements. Would love to be able to afford one of their bespoke pieces
Yep, thanks for the heads up, also just ordered from Amazon
This also seems to have been serialised on Radio 4. I caught a bit in the car this morning but turns out was Episode 4.
Same title "Hands of Time" and sounded quite technical and interesting was checking here before a heads up.
Thursday 09. 45 if it helps find it.
I'm following it now and as you say, really interesting.
