An Italian Memoro Piccini for us tonight; a blend of Merlot, Montepulciano, Primitivo and Nero d'Avola. About as good as a supermarket wine gets for the price.
Soon to be quaffed with a medium-rare sirloin steaks with the family. I do like a Bank Holiday.

Daschbosch South African sauvignon blanc. Drinkable, but my preferred SA sauvignon blanc is De Grendel.
The return of summer today, and I found this at the back of the under stairs cupboard. It was given to me a few years ago, and I forgot about it as it was out of reach.
A 12 year old French Sav Blanc with the deep colour of the urine of a dehydrated man!
Much more depth of flavour than usual Sav blancs. It will go with a nice spicy pizza.
Google tells me it is about £40 per bottle, so a few quid more than my usual £8.50 bottle of Villa Maria.

A bottle of Aldi’s finest. Even with Scotland’s minimum alcohol pricing policy, a paltry £4:32 and not at all bad (after the first glass)

Very decent for £5.50 (down from £8) & may be even cheaper on multi-buy in England.

Not that cheap that one but Aldi do a lovely Assyrtiko for 7 or 8 quid which is lovely.
Yes, I did read after I opened it that unlike decent red wines, sav blanc should be picked, pressed and p1ssed!

Wedding Anniversary today so got a decent one out. It’s very good, but probably not worth what it’d cost today. Think I bought the case of them in 2006.
A good few glasses of Whispering Angel in the sunshine earlier hosting a bbq for friends, back on the usual Cloudy B Sauv V to watch the sun set.
Rather fancy a drop of red, but a) after daytime wine, it will likely cause me to snore, b) the stuff I really fancy is sitting in a cellar, and c) that cellar is in the New Forest, so I am screwed there!

Yes, Pontet Canet has gained a lot of kudos over the last few years.
I decanted it for 6 hours and then put it back into the bottle. The difference in taste from first opening to 6 hours later was remarkable. I actually thought it might be corked originally, but the air opened it up massively and it was super tasty.
3 left from that case now.

Always think Whispering Angel is nice enough but overpriced
Cloudy bay on the other hand is just fantastic.

WA I agree with you on, wife bought a case of 1.5L bottles, which are never a fan of fridges once opened. Was nice to return to normal bottle sizes.
CB vs any Maria / Nobilo / Oyster just doesn’t quite hit the spot, so stick with the Cloudy. Been through the other NZ yards, and yet to find anything to trump it.
It remains our little vice with a bottle of a night whilst cooking and then maybe another post cooking.
I do find the change from summer to winter / autumn a little more painful as seem to enjoy a more expensive afternoon drink with red vs the white.
There was a well regarded WA in Lidl/Aldi but not seen for a while & hate browsing.

I buy it a couple of cases when Tesco has its 25% discount across all wine. That usually happens a few times a year, so look out for that.
I've done that in the past and always ended up drinking a bit too much a bit too often. At least if I wait for the Clubcard offers I just get a bottle or two in at a time!

I like the Barossa Ink Shiraz I think that it gets better if open for a while, just my opinion I am not expert
My favorite Shiraz is Back Stump from Laithwaites. I do think that it is overpriced (at full price), but worth it on a good offer

The remainder is in the small carraffe behind. Lots of throw-off from it.
Bought a case of that and a case of Les Forts de Latour en primeur in '97. Half-botts mean you don't HAVE to commit to hoovering a whole bottle.
Trying the local produce often turns up some gems. This did not disappoint last night
(we’re near Parma, but this wine is from Gazzola, just south of Piacenza) …
Again, I will look out for it back in the UK, but I doubt I’ll find it.
