On your car fuel flap, there should be a place you can put the cap whilst filling, instead of it hitting your bodywork.

It wasn't until the 1830s that tea trumped gin as our national beverage.

The word "unlockable" can mean that something cannot be locked as well as something that can be unlocked.

Not so much a "never knew that" however it is a bit word nerdy and is an example of a trimorphemic word.

Pheasant Island in the Pacific Ocean switches country every six months: It belongs to Spain from February through July, then it becomes part of France from August through January.

No, it's not in the Pacific, it's a small inhibited island in the Bidasoa River, between Spain and France. True about the two countries though.

Australia is wider than the moon. The moon sits at 3400km in diameter, while Australia’s distance from east to west is almost 4000km.

On the subject of checking: Van Halen's concert rider included a clause stating that there must a bowl of M&Ms in the backstage area, but strictly no brown ones. If this requirement wasn't met, the concert promoter would forfeit the entire show at full price.

This was a safety check: the bowl of M&Ms served as an indicator of whether anyone had actually read the band's contract properly.

That in 1963 they could predict the future.

Shame they couldn’t predict the FOMO generation that would follow, old blokes who couldn’t master the art of walking and flaffing on their phone at the same time, people who walk their dogs and feel the need to talk to someone (very loudly) for the entire walk and parents who do the school run and are more concerned about FB posts rather than the kind of day their ignored offspring have had.

    Funny old world.

The longest word you can write with (only) the left side of your keyboard is 'stewardess'. Try it and/or come up with a longer word.

The Stag Beetle is the only beetle known to navigate its way to Riga for a long weekend, it uses the smell of beer and pheromones.

There should be… but often is not.

I have had plenty of cars that do not have this and it irks me when the cap rests on the bodywork
