    Super Waterproof Divers

The Ultra-Deep is watch I am keen to try in both steel and Titanium, so Inspired by the first Omega Ultra-Deep to be shown on the forum (as far as I can remember)
I thought I would have dig around the watch boxes to see what divers I have that you might call ‘super waterproof’ (one is labeled as such on the case back). By super water proof I mean 500 meter + rated. Or at least they were rated as such when new.
I had more than I thought

They range from 500m to 5000m all are quite chunky but some not as big as you might think. 2 have a mono block case construction (I have a thing for mono block cases watches as well).
In the past I have also owned the Smiths Caribbean (1000m), the Crepas Le’ Ocean (1200m) and the Ocean X deep sea homages (to see if I could get on with the deep sea, shape and size, that watch solved that question for me) so I guess I like a super water proof watch - one day I will learn to swim…
Let’s see what others are out there on the forum.

I like the fact that it just says "Wasserdicht" on the case back. Like that's all you need to know.

I do miss mine. I really enjoyed the way the oil filling virtually brought the hands and dial right up against the crystal like an LCD screen.

I don't have this Halios Delfin any more unfortunately - but is 500m.

Sinn UX. 5,000m rated, but Hydro models are pretty much impossible to breach with pressure I'd imagine.

I’ve got an Apeks 1000m quartz diver that I bought for £160.
It’s unbelievably well made with helium release valve, ceramic bezel and nicely engraved case back.
I emailed Apeks out of curiosity as I was sceptical about the truth of the depth rating but was assured that the watch is fully tested to 1000m.

It's not something I pay much attention to since I've never dived deeper than the bottom of a municipal baths, but it turns out I have a few that qualify -

Omega Planet Ocean, good for 600m -

    Sinn U1 - good for 1000m

MWC 'Depthmaster' rated to 1000m and feels like that's a conservative estimate - not bad for a something costing under £300 at the time:

But if you want a lot of watch for naff-all money, these were £180 new at one point:

Years ago I had a CX Swiss Military 12,000 feet. Think I got it off Maseman, no idea who bought it off me. The thickness of the case made it pretty much unwearable @25.4mm.

Deepest I've got at the moment is properly fugly, Hamilton Navy 1,000m

My only remaining deep divers are my SD43, 1220m rating, and my Pam 243, 1000m rating, the first Pam submersible in a 1950 case. Would love to add an 87 or 64 at some point.
I have previously had an omega PO, and 3 different DSSDs. Each a very chunky ., But would add a 136660 JC if I had the option.

Kienzle used to do a 12000m Hyperbar quartz model.

SDW also used to do a 12000m oil-filled super-cheap jobby. They also used the name Hypertec for another range.

    Both easily Googleable.

PO and pelagos here (600, 500m). I briefly had a zelos abyss which was a lump and made me laugh out loud when I put it on. It was moved on to another forum member.

My watch box definitely leans diver heavy but only 2 really deep, deep divers.
Both Sinn U2's 1 an SDR and the other a -W

    Currently just the SBDB001 (600m).

Had the Baume & Mercier Capeland XXL (1000m), Breitling M1 (1000m chronograph), SD16660 (1220m) and Breitling Seawolf (3000m) in the past though.

I liked mine, but the non dive bezel killed it for me,

I've never dived in mine, but I wouldn't find the bezel a big problem if I did.

I certainly don't for desk diving and it's not going to 1000M unless I drop it off a cruise ship

The depth rating was fine with excellent bragging rights for desk divers, but on a personal level without a countdown bezel it became just a colourful trinket, shame as I wanted one from the first mockup drawings.

Pretty much where I’m at too, SD16600 the heavy lifter followed by RN300 and various Seiko 200m.

Just the one for me. 3,900m but all are pressure tested to +25% at the factory so you could say 4,875m. Makes you wonder why they didn’t go for 5,000m.

  35. #35
I've got two of Eddie's Caribbeans (black and a yellow) a Muhle SAR rescue timer and a Tag Heuer super professional covering me for dips in the deep end and a Sinn U50 if I'm just out in the rain.

It’s because the 25% margin isn’t a Rolex thing, it’s an ISO 6425 requirement to be certified a diver’s watch.
Hence if it said 5000m on the dial, it would really have to be tested to 6250m.

Ah, makes sense. I know Seiko updated their dials to include a lume spot at 3 to comply with ISO requirement for a marking per hour but rolex doesn’t seem to have done this part. Are hash marks needed on the entire bezel now too? The sub hasn’t updated to that yet and I doubt it ever will.

The ISO rating does require hash marks at each minute of the bezel. The original ISO rating did not require a lumed mark at 3 but the revised rating does.
Not every dovers watch is ISO rated nor does it need to be.
E.g. Sinn, and Rolex have their own standards
Just because it does not meet current ISO standards does not mean it’s not a suitable divers watch.

A few days ago I picked up a Zelos Abyss 3.

3,000m, which will do me in light rainfall.

But will it withstand a shower, doing the dishes or even the deep end at a hotel swimming pool. 6ft will test most watches

No idea. I don't want to get my professional diver's watch wet.
