    And if you punch £158 in 1976 into one of the online inflation calculators, that would be £1,095 in today's money.

    And to be honest, that sounds about right for a mass-produced premium stainless steel watch.

    Google tells me that the average wage in 76 was £72, so just over 2 weeks wages, £500odd average wage today and they retail for what over 5k?

    Take longer to save up nowadays.
