Thread: YouTube Cooking Channels

    YouTube Cooking Channels

I know we have a few kitchen savvy members here so I'd like to ask the following - which, if any, cooking channels do you subscribe to? I've recently subscribed to chef Jack Ovens (sic) and have found his channel easy to follow and great for batch cooking.

I started my 51st spin around the sun last month and I'm looking to expand my repertoire of dishes this year as part of the celebration. I'm absolutely no Ramsey or Blumenthal though I can follow a recipe and there's very, very little I won't eat so all cuisines are good by me.

    So, what's a cookin'?

Don’t really watch much cooking stuff but did stumble across an American fella called Brian Lagerstrom and was very watchable and offered good ‘cheffing’ advice.

Seems to have nearly 1M subscribers so must be doing something right!

This was going to be my recommendation. I watch a LOT of YouTube cooking stuff and for stuff you can make at home and is very watchable he’s the best in my opinion

Not another cooking show is also very good. Ethan Chlebowski another one, and you’re possibly already familiar with J Kenji Lopez-Alt, but if not definitely check him out (he’s a bit of a God in that world)

I would agree with Brian Lagerstrom. Also Food Wishes, ProHome Cooks and Sam the Cooking Guy. With any American channel you probably want to tone down the sugar and salt they use a fair bit. If you want more of an entertainment channel angle then Sorted is good.

For relatively easy "British Indian Restaurant" curries - https://www.youtube.com/@LatifsInspired

and for a variety of (mainly) meat based meals have recently found - https://www.youtube.com/@andy_cooks

An old favourite with lots of diverse and (relatively) easy recipies; https://www.youtube.com/@JoshuaWeissman

    Thank you all - appreciated

I recognise the Andy Cooks suggestion (Australian?) though the others are new to me, will have a watch of all of them.

I like watching Chef John; https://www.youtube.com/@foodwishes

He mainly looks at American style cooking and has a relaxing and light persona. Good fun stuff.

If I'm watching one of his vids, my other half always comments that I'm watching Kermit the frog, on account of his strangely melodic delivery.

Do enjoy his videos and the focus on food rather than personality.

His are pretty good, I subscribe to that channel

Try this one - Cowboy Kent Rollins. A cowboy camp cook originally.

Or: Uncle Roger (a bit of comedy, but he does feature some serious-ish recipes.) Not a Jamie Oliver fan though! Haiyah!

Chin and Choo are a fantastic watch and I am now creating my fav Chinese takeaways at home and they are amazing.

Fried rice, chow mien, salt and chilli chicken, beef with spring onion and ginger are highlights.

I love a bit of takeaway chicken fried rice and their one nails it. The MSG is a game changer, in moderation of course.

I don’t tend to watch many cooking videos on YouTube, however Bong Eats do a great range of videos showing Bengali - specifically Calcutta - food. (Bong is a somewhat affectionate term for Bengalis, nothing herbal related).

    https://youtube.com/@BongEats

The videos are well produced with precise recipes. The biriani recipe is quite something, requiring two people and a Gantt chart, but that’s for a very complex dish, most are much more reasonable!

Definitely authentic Culcatta food, rather than Westernised Indian.

If no one has yet discovered George Egg aka The Snack Hacker then I thoroughly recommend you do so.

Far more Lowbrow than earlier suggestions but brilliant nonetheless.

I was an avid follower of Als Kitchen for Indian cooking but just lately, I feel he’s gone very commercial, plying his spice mixes etc, which I find a bit off putting. In the meantime, I’ve started watching The Glebe Kitchen.
