I've made a request to reserve the new OP with celebration dial, it screams of a watch that will be in limited production.

Glad to see the AirKing survives… maybe I’ll stand a chance of getting one this year after I had to switch my interest from a Mustard OP when that was discontinued.
Must say though, the Explorer 40 looks interesting.. but I’d imagine unobtainable for a while.

I think they are using the second definition ..... The challenging of Excellence

I agree it sounds odd but it seems extraordinary that Rolex would make a cock up on such a scale.

Also I thought the USA was the second largest Rolex sales market globally behind China ? so it seems inconceivable that the global marketing team would not be fully abreast with the nuances of the English language. (Especially as I believe English has the third largest number of speakers globally, behind Chinese and Spanish.)
Have you ever heard anyone use this word in this way?

We're still defying stuff. The Daytona is an icon "defying time" itself now. I hope people don't miss their trains when it tells them the wrong one.

This is a hilarious, but also astonishing and embarrassing cock up for a brand the size of Rolex. Even more amazing is that either they haven’t realised, or they’ve decided to just style it out and hope no one notices. Perhaps they think changing it and admitting it’s wrong will be even more of a story.

I see there webpage is now leading with “The Challenge of Excellence “

Seems they did indeed make an error which is now corrected.

Maybe it depends on country you live... I remember I have been on page with the UK prices (don´t find it usually), but when
I visit official .com page, there are no prices (which makes sense).
Anyway, I got the price - thanks for that!

Yes, no need to tie to our brains and the English language in knots trying to make sense of it, it was a mistake pure and simple, now quietly corrected. Someone must have had a very bad weekend, but amazingly the usual watch sites don’t seem to have picked up on it, possibly because they don’t want to risk their relationship with Rolex. I remain astonished.

Wish they did the rose + blue combo on the sub instead of the skydweller. Would’ve asked for one of those immediately…

    Ti YM42 And Exp40 please.

All of the SkyDweller models have the new tag on them. Must be a revision somewhere. Weird to have the exact same dial options in WG on Oysterflex Vs steel on bracelet.

The new PM Daytona options are interesting but the 1908 is pretty expensive. I think the last price 12-18 months ago on a Cellini Time was approx £13k

Good luck! I have to say I like it, it’s fresh and fun, the OP seems to have become the watch where they can be more playful, and Rolex but not too serious is a good combination. I wouldn’t mind the 36 but it hardly seems worth trying.

Their first open case back is certainly news - more to come? And inevitably, the Explorer now comes in a choice of slightly too small and slightly too large.

Just saw that! For the full effect you have to say it in a strong Swiss French accent. I suppose at least ‘an icon defying time’ could have the meaning of not aging, but still… The marketing department seems to be defying English, or possibly reality.

Mid lockdown I remember looking at these and they were starting mid 12's. Talk about inflation bursting rises!

    It's gorgeous though I can't defy it 😜

I imagine a new one will return at some point in time. I cannot see much changing with the discontinued model as it was never popular.

I never got why it wasn’t more popular, the OP’s in bright colours seemed to fly out. The Z Blue was just perfect and a little under the radar as a Rolex for those who didn’t know.

I’ll live in hope of getting one again.

A little on the thick side?

  30. #130
I think Hodinkee’s mock GMT yellow gold jubilee with a solid black bezel looks better than the black/grey Rolex chose. The grey looks washed out to me. I’m hoping they release the Everose on jubilee next.

I’m not immediately a fan of the Daytona update either. The dial proportions are reminiscent of the Zenith era, which may not be a bad thing to some, but does little for me.

The white gold/blue dial Daytona has disappeared, which makes my decision to turn one down in December another watch buying regret

That's annoying they are changing the Daytona - because I was 3 years away from a black dial :) ... looks like no black dial unless I'm missing it

is there going to be a queue for that OP with the bubbles on the face? might have been ok 40 years ago but thats why I dont work in marketing. Prob described as 'playful'

So sorry that’s not what I meant at all.

I meant the Milgauss maybe didn’t ever become as popular as some coloured dials as possibly it is a bit thick.

No I got you, no offence taken. The watch was a little thick and heavy, I do regret letting it go though but sat in the extension it helped pay for so can’t moan too much.

I thought for sure it’d be revised this year not just stopped dead.

Real life pics below. The dial certainly looks bigger. Interested to find out if it really is.

A combination of the smaller markers, thinner sub dial rings and smaller bezel certainly lead to a very different look.

Having got used to the old look this dial looks less cluttered and more spacious and dare I say more sparse. Not sure which I prefer right now.

Been trawling through the Rolex website doing the annual catch up on releases. Has anyone noticed how flakey their website is currently? I'm trying to configure an Explorer and it took me to a holding page full of what looked like Chinese writing.

PS none of which I can afford right now or am important enough to buy

It's a curious year from Rolex certainly. The new OP reminds me of being 10 and using paint on Win95 to colour in circles. Very strange.

Patek however have had a stinker. What an awful release from then this year.

When I said almost that definitely excluded the OP balloons from my like list! Reminds of the horror movie IT with the clown.

Agree that the Patek releases are uninspiring

Looks like all the discontinued dial colours on one dial?

Could be wrong as can’t quite remember which are still there in which size.

I guess it will be one for a collector / flipper, probably severely limited in production!

Alive with colour, vitality and positivity, the new dials of the Oyster Perpetual 31, Oyster Perpetual 36 and Oyster Perpetual 41 are dotted with many-coloured bubbles that joyfully reunite the five hues introduced to the range in 2020.

I like it but won't be moving my 'expression of interest' from the bright blue OP41.
