I was glancing at watches 'n' stuff as usual, found a leather strap which has been darkened in patches as below...

Or just take undyed tanned leather and paint a little dye along the edges - it'll soak-in to give a similar effect.
I used a nail file on mine then massaged with vaseline lip balm.
