Is “MrsWrist” a euphemism ?
Folks, good people, learned and erudite members of this fine forum (and the idiots can chip in too)…
I will be taking Mrs Wrist to Venice, possibly 23-26 March.
Any advice on the following:
Accommodation. Few hundred Euros a night is OK. (Less is also OK!)
Must see/off the beaten track/alt ideas from the usual tourist lark (which I can Google).
And any other business

We stayed at the Biasutti Hotel on Lido di Venezia.
A little old fashioned, but helpful staff & a great location that gave us plenty of options.

Restaurants:
Lineadombra
Amazing lunch spot with a terrace over the water with stunning views (upscale)
Oniga – Campo san Barnaba
Small – busy – local – we had the big seafood dish for 2 and it was incredible.
Cantinone Storica
Our favourite – local – have the sea bass cooked in salt
These are all on Dorsoduro which is where I would strongly recommend staying. Have a look at getting an air bnb rather than a hotel, much more economical and you want to eat in as many places as possible rather then feel beholden to a hotel restaurant.
The tower to go up as opposed to the very busy one in St Marks is San Giorgio Maggiore - a quick vaporetto ride
A fun shop is La Forcola where they make the wooden holders for the gondola”oars” – its near Storica
And finally if you fancy a boat ride go to Burano.
Can strongly recommend getting a water taxi from the airport into Venice. Not cheap but an incredible experience.
Once your settled get on the Vaporetto which is the public ferry that runs all the way around Venice. It's circular so huh can stay on it all the way round. Get to the open air section at the back and take in the scenery.
Enjoy!

Can I suggest a quick read of the history of Dandolo, and then when in Venice a visit to Saint Marks. Look at the front facade, it’s breath taking when you know how it got there.
Can I respectfully suggest that whilst you are admiring the fine vista you do not get all Barry White with your wrist as they frown on that sort of thing.
We stayed at the Molino Stucky (Hilton) on Guidecca a short boat ride away.
A very nice hotel and far enough away from the madding crowds. Less than £200 per night too.

Edit - it has a private shuttle boat as well.

Just get lost! It's fascinating wandering around the little alleys and squares, and exploring the churches.

Look up free guided walking tours.
My son and I went to Venice for a few days a few years ago and one highlight was a night time walking tour of the city with a local, focussing on film locations (but with plenty of other history).
There was no charge, but a voluntary donation to a local charity aimed at improving access for disabled people. A really enjoyable tour and for a good cause too.
One thing, though, it may not be very warm at the end of March and maybe flooded!

My wife and my MiL did the same about 10yrs ago. They stayed on one of the islands: Murano or Burano. One of the highlights, to emphasize the 'film' theme: a Riva speedboat 'taxi' from the airport to the hotel. I remember my wife sending us (my sons and I) footage from the boat trip with the James Bond theme! That was fun.My son and I went to Venice for a few days a few years ago and one highlight was a night time walking tour of the city with a local, focussing on film locations (but with plenty of other history).
And if you see something you like in a shop then buy it - you will almost certainly not find that shop again! At least that’s what happened to us!
The glassware from Murano is lovely and makes great presents.
We went in the summer some years back and we loved it.
Here now.
Sun and shade, comfy in just a light sweater.
No chance of flooding, but canals seem to be replenishing too.
On Murano now. Venice central is just a photo opportunity on every corner. Lovely place.
Beer is surprisingly expensive!!!
Half litre Prosecco - 6.50eur
330ml beer - 5eur

Go to the Café Florian at the San Marco Square for a coffee or two, three to experience how you're 'financially fleeced'. Bring money - a lot of it. We sat there when the boys were younger in 2013 or 14. Two coffee, two drinks for the boys set us back >80 euros, Now 10 yrs later, prices must be doubled.
Ha - cafe Florián…
Espresso in all of Venice - £1.50
Espresso in Florián - £7

Nice picture. The time we were there, it was a lot warmer. A lot. And the tables and seats were put on the Square itself. I don't know, but is there something of a rule about 'further from the bar = higher prices'?
The peninsula in front of Venice has a nice town as well: Lido id Jesolo. There's a Water Park called Aqualandia. The atmosphere, architecture and organization of the park easily meets the big parks in Orlando, Florida. Be in time for a stretcher and a sun-umbrella. But worth the visit when you have kids! (Knowing how to swim is a big advantage!)
It's not unusual in Venice or wider Italy to be charged more for sitting at a table than getting your coffee at the bar. Cafe Florián's website states it's 3.50Eu for an espresso at the bar.
I suspect they'll charge a bit more for sitting outside than sitting inside too.

Jim.
Yes, I seem to recall there was a very high service charge or similar to sit at a table on the square when we visited decades ago.
Too cold on a more recent visit.

So it looks like I will also be going to Venice later this month for the other half's birthday. After what seemed like endless searching for a hotel that was both not stupidly priced, we're going midweek to reduce overall cost, and actually had availability we found one in the Dorsoduro area as recommended here. So any other top tips?
Off there soon too so following with interest!
